Stripping Problems

Forgive me as I'm a newbie, I've been trying to strip the Disney Sinbad DVD for a fair few hours now, I start by stripping the menu extras from the menu vob removing unwanted ID's then the buttons leading to the deleted ID's and unwanted extras with menuedit I then strip the menu extras from VIDEO_TS using the Doom9 guides way removing any unwanted warning etc..

I then gather the other remaining files located in the VIDEO_TS folder to once again bring all the files together again and begin the vob extras stripping process stripping the unwanted subtitles and audio streams from the main movies title set, after IFOedit produces the the new resized movies titleset I then move all the files back together again except replacing unwanted vobs with a set of blanked vobs to replace the unwanted extras vobs, following 2cools guide I ammend the IFO's and strip the blanked vobs of all streams to correct the pointers, although this resizes the VTS_0X_0 vobs files and VIDEO_TS 0 byte.


Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong

First of all, my stripping guides were intended for a single Titleset that may contain one or more Program Chains (PGCs).

If you only had one PGC , then it would be pointless to strip if at the end, the VOB(s) will be replaced by a blank one anyway. What Titleset are you working on and how many PGCs are in this titleset?

Were you trying to strip this titleset clean as in "blanking out" the whole thing? If so, all was needed was to replace only the VTS_*_1.VOB, VTS_*_2.VOB, etc. These are what I call, "movie" VOBs. VTS_*_0.VOBs and VIDEO_TS.VOB are your "menu" VOBs. My guide say to replace just the "movie" VOBs.

You shouldn't be working on a VTS and VIDEO_TS at the same time. Again, my guides are for single Titlesets and also they were not meant for stripping menu VOBs.

Can you give us your game plan on what you want to do to your movie? For starters, give us what DVD files you have like

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
...
VTS_*_0.BUP
VTS_*_0.IFO
VTS_*_0.VOB
VTS_*_1.VOB
VTS_*_2.VOB

Say something like VTS_01 is my movie and I would like to ... or
VTS_* has extras that I want to strip out.

Thanks for such a swift reply 2Cool and many thanks for the excellent guides you've kindly written, I think I speak for all the newbies when I say that :)


I apologise for such a sketchy post, The DVD structure in question does contain a few titlesets, as you can imagine Disney throws in alot of additional features in their DVD's to entertain the children, ie games, artwork pictures tours etc..

In total there are 9 title sets, I have analysed the DVD and know roughly what these vobs contain.

VIDEO_TS contains a copyright warning still and a chapter 13-16 motion menu screen :confused:
VTS_01_0 contains the the main menu
VTS_01_1-5 Main Movie
VTS_02_1 Making of Sinbad 2 PGC's
VTS_03_1 Trailer of Cat in the hat 1 PGC
VTS_04_1 Short extra animation 1 PGC
VTS_05_1 Black screen? (important navigaion vob?) 3 PGC's
VTS_06_1 DTS Ad (Required by menu) 2 PGC's
VTS_07_1 Game 13 PGC's
VTS_08_1 Tour of Sinbads ship 22 PGC's
VTS_09_1 Adventure game/tour 13 PGC's

hmmm...what exactly do you mean by replace unwanted "extras" vobs?

I want to blank out VTS's 02, 03, 04, 07, 08, 09, movie vobs with a blanked vob titleset so I can reduce the DVD's size to fit onto a DVD5

Sorry, I didn't get this part. Are you saying that your VTS_0X_0.VOB and VIDEO_TS.VOB are now at 0 bytes? You shouldn't be working on a VTS and VIDEO_TS at the same time. Again, my guides are for single Titlesets and also they were not meant for stripping menu VOBs.

I stripped both the VTS_01_0. and Video_TS vobs as suggested by Doom9's Guide (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/ifoedit-menustripping.htm)

You have given your gameplan as to doing this DVD as movie with menu only. So after blanking out VTS_02 to VTS_09, were you successfull with playback with no problems at this point. This is prior to doing the menu VOBs.

Hi 2Cool,

I've now actually managed to successfully strip this movie of all the extras and edit the menu, it's now on a DVD-R with minimum compression :)

To be honest with you although I read the guides over and over and read all information I could find regarding this issue it all boilded down to me not understanding how really IFOEDIT worked.

I'm far from mastering IFOEDIT and I'm still not sure what I was doing wrong to make the vobs appear at Zero bytes although my methods of stripping are now working so I'm not going to worry to much about it :D I suspect it was a typical example of doing the stripping process in the wrong order but thanks all the same for taking time out to help me ;)

Theres only one issue I'm now to sorted out, although the blanked VTS vob contains a very short black video clip which is hardly noticable to see I can however hear and see my standalone recalling it before quickly jumping to the next VTS, this 1st gave me the impression the standalone was struggling to read the disc so I'm now going to try to edit the VIDEO_TS ifo in a attempt to bypass these blanked vobs that are recalled :D

It may take some time for you to read and understand it since you are still new to IfoEdit. It's one of my longer guides.
