View Full Version : replace VOBs with blanks and re-link?

I'm just now learning how to use ifoedit so forgive me if I don't properly explain.
I've got some VOBs for which I'd like to substitute the 1 cell blank "filler" VOB as supplied via 2COOL's posts.
I'm not concerned at all about replacing multiple source VOBs with a single instance of the 1-cell-blank VOB. 1:1 replacement is just fine by me.
OK, suppose I overwrite the original VOBs with the 1-cell-blank VOB, how are they then properly linked via ifoedit? Is there a fairly simple way to re-index, as it were, whatever navigational info exists?
I'd like to keep all the menu functions, audio tracks, etc. which exist and the VOBs I am replacing don't have complex usage, they're just played once in a linear fashion.

Well I don't quite understand your concern here because you don't replace the IFO, just the VOB.
As the commands are in the ifo there isn't any re-linking etc. to be done, or am I missing something?
I've used these methods frequently and had no problems at all.
cheers

In my Title stripping guides, the IFO is not updated yet when replacing the VOBs. The sector addresses obviously don't match the new VOB you put in.
Is there a fairly simple way to re-index, as it were, whatever navigational info exists? The quickest way is to follow my guide on using IFOedit to do its magic. ;) The IFO's PGC Command Table does not get changed at any point unless you manually edited them beforehand.

I looked at the guides and am a little confused. VOB isn't the same as PGC, right? Did I mention this is all new to me?

Read What's on a DVD? (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvd-structure.htm) on learning about VOBs and other stuff.
As for PGCs , a Program Chain (PGC) defines the order in which cells are played back and how they are played back depending upon the current settings of the DVD player. Read here (http://www.dvd-replica.com/DVD/pgc.php) for more detailed info.

Yeah, I looked through those. I'm hoping there's a way to use ifoedit's "smarts" to figure out where the replaced VOB is "linked." The stuff I'm wanting to get rid of is intro graphics, previews, that sort of thing. Almost always single VOBs and only one occurence in the play paths. Oops, my terminology, not "the" terminology...
