Help - problem with DVD2SVCD and ImgTool

Hi all,

I am new to this board and have recently tried my hands on DVD backing up.

My system setup:

Win XP SP1, DirectX 9b
Nero 6.0023
ImgTool 0.89 (I use this version on recommendation of various guides on this site)
DVD Decrypter 3.17
DVD2SVCD bundle 1.2.1b3
DVD Shrink 3b5
Pioneer 106D writer

My problem is that for a lot of movies that I have successfully backed up with DVD Shrink and burned with DVD Decrypter, (after using ImgTool), it does not work with DVD2SVCD (using DVD2DVD setting, compressed with CCE 2.67/EclCCE) when I make an image file and burned it with Decrypter. (It actually worked on my Nintaus stand-alone, but not on the Austek or Toshiba stand-alones). The movies include Terminator 3, Waterloo, Cleopatra (all PAL region 4 as I live in Australia).

However, when I burned these files using Nero 6 (vob/ifo/bup files - directly and not using an image file) it works on all 3 players. I do not trust Nero completely and so would much prefer to use Decrypter/ImgTool combo. I am very grateful if someone can help to figure out where I went wrong.

The odd thing is that this did not happen before, when I used DVD2SVCD/ImgTool/Decrypter combos. The only change I made was to upgrade Nero to v6.0023. Could installation of newer Nero version somehow affected the way ImgTool works (but then again it worked OK when I used DVDShrink/Decrypter/Imgtool combo on these same movies)

One more thing please - and please excuse my stupidity if this had been asked before - but can someone explain what is GetVTS sector is for and how to do it properly :D

I suggest you the usage of ImgTool Classic because this produces more compliant DVD images and is easier to use.

You should always do a "Get VTS Sectors" before starting to build an image. You should use Ifoedit to do so: Start Ifoedit, click on "Open" (in the lower left), choose the file "video_ts.ifo" of your DVD structure, press the button "Get VTS Sectors". This will process all IFOs and BUPs as well as resave all changed files for you. So you only need to do this once for your new DVD project.

What does "Get VTS sectors"? Hmm, it will correct the sector entries for the VTS files in your IFO files.

I had a bunch of compatibility problems until I upgraded to Nero 6 v6.00.28. No problems now with DVD Decrypter 3.17 in file mode and the "non-classic" ImgTool 1.10 after a transcode. Nothing wrong with the "classic" image approach but I thought I'd mention it.
