OK Here goes...My first post...(hope it's in the right spot so I don't get flamed)

I'm trying to encode dvd to Divx using GKnot 0.28.6.2
DVD-Waking up in Reno
NTSC
Film type:?

When I use DVD2AVI it jumps between Progressive and Interlaced really fast back and forth. (did a search for this and tried different stuff with no luck). I creat d2v files with and without forced film, when I open it I can hit preview and see some frames with english text (writing in the movie) and some a few frames later (that are repeat frames) but now it's in spanish???

I also tried to use IVTC and/or Inverse Telcine, and also De-interlace options with a small clip of the movie and when I preview I get the same results each time (mixed scenes with repeats in spanish text...i.e. signs in the opening scene etc.) Then in the movie itself frames are also repeated.

When I ripped the VOB files did it mixed the spanish version w/the english version some how?

Does anybody know if I skipped a step....I've done many other movies (about 10 so far) just by reading alot and doing searches for help...but this one has got me stumped.

Note: the audio isn't muxed in spanish, that part is repeated the same as the last couple of frames...

Thanks in advance :D

P.S. I already read the tutorial on Force Film, IVTC etc...(Kinda confusing, had to read it about 4 times to start to understand).

Hi and welcome to the forum-

When I ripped the VOB files did it mixed the spanish version w/the english version some how?

Sounds like it to me. I think you probably used DVDDecrypter in File Mode, rather than in IFO Mode as you should have. Go back and make sure you're in IFO mode. You'll almost certainly have to decrypt the Vob files again. In IFO Mode, you'll probably see 3 different (maybe just 2) angles listed for the film, and if you're English speaking, you'll probably want the first angle.

As for using DVD2AVI, the standard explanation is to use Force Film (and no IVTC) if the percentage it shows is greater than 95%, and not to use it if less than 95 percent. If you don't use Force Film, then following the guidelines laid down in three different places in that guide, you can determine whether to IVTC or to Deinterlace. However, Waking Up In Reno is a major recent film, so you can probably use Force Film with confidence.

...When I use DVD2AVI it jumps between Progressive and Interlaced really fast back and forth....This is quite common for Telecined content. For this type of telecined content, I typically use DeComb (Telecide/Decimate) and use Telecide with postprocess decombing turned off. But I test a sample first to make sure.

If you'd like to know more about your options, see this tutorial (www.doom9.org/ivtc-tut.htm).

manono, Sure enough I was in file mode when I've been ripping all the dvd's...So should I ALWAYS use IFO mode? The other movies I did came out super this is the only one giving me a problem so far.

jggimi, I thought when I was using IVTC I was basically doing the same thing you said above...I know there is a way to go into the dv2 script and take the comment out of decomb but I'm not sure if I would be doing it right, can you go into a little more detail.

I've read the tutorial 1/2 a dozen times now and it's still a little confusing but I'm catching on.

Yes, Gknot's default IVTC is Decomb, which is two filters, Telecide() and Decimate(). The default for Telecide is to deinterlace after rebuilding frames (post=true) and I usually test (post=false) as it's faster, and unnecessary if the Telecining stays to pattern.

Hi-

So should I ALWAYS use IFO mode?

Yes, because of the one movie in 10 that will trip you up if you don't (as you found out).

So from the looks of it, I'm assuming I have two seperate problems. First I need to re-rip my VOB's the proper way, then I need to find out if I need to IVTC afterwards. OK this is starting to make sense, one step at a time. I will let you guys know what happens as soon as I get time to re-rip.
