Can you just copy all the vobs and ifos to your HDD if the movie doesnt need any compression? Or is there still a need to use decryption and/or deep analysis?

If the original DVD is small enough to fit on a DVDR, there is no need to use a transcoder at all. You do have to decrypt them though. You can just rip/decrypt the files to your hard drive then burn them. My preferred approach is to use DVDDecrypter to rip to an ISO image, then use DVDDecrypter again to burn that image.
Note: if you do rip as files, you probably want to run Get VTS Sectors before you burn them.
