I'm finnaly going to ask some questions I've been thinking about for a long time.

I've been searching the forums and haven't found any straight answers for these probably basic questions.

It's about containers. I know for example that avi is an container, but why cant it store all kinds of audio/video codecs?

What does the container consist of? only pointers to seperate the audio and video streams?

How do you know if it's an container or not? is m2v a container for mpeg2? I thought that vob was the container and m2v the video but m2v files can have audio too.

Any information about A/V containers is welcome, links or anything.

Just trying to learn something here! :)

Thanks!
