Strange oversize on gknot

I have been using Gknot for awhile know, and ive read and followed all of doom9's guides, alot, so i really know what im doing. Im trying to encode the movie Swordfish. Ive encoded plenty of movies before without this problem, but strangly this only occurs when i check expert in the audio tab and undo the downsample. I heard theres no reason to downsample unless you are converting to VCD/SVCD. So i do it, and 3 1/2 hours later i get a 812 mb file. im aiming for 700. This happens whenever i check expert and undo resample, but when i just follow gknot presets, my other rips are 695 mb. I checked it in GSpot and the av. br. was 1002! the bitrate calc sed 825!! the size of the audio file 91 mb. and the movie is 1 hours 39 mins 18 secs. C what you get!! this really pisses me off, becuase it happens every time i dont downsample, at 1002 kb/s, and it always is at least 100 mb bigger than usual!! :(

im using gknot .28.6.2 on a 1900+ Athlon Xp, 512 mb ram, 40 gig, 128 mb Geforce4 video card.

Hi Katana11 and welcome to doom9 forums,

Are you saying that audio is oversized than expected or video is oversized. From my calculation 1:39:18 length audio at 128kbps CBR will be 91MB, which exactly what you got. So there is no problem in audio. Implies no problem on not downsampling audio. Eventhough there is no problem to your video I would suggest downsampling, mainly because LAME is optimized at 44.1khz.
Then the problem is with video. For that please post your GKnot log file.
Btw, you have not mentioned what codec are you using and what video type are using.(NTSC or PAL ?)

im using divx 3.11 alpha, and NTSC. The video is oversized, not audio, and how is LAME optimized for 44.1 hz? And i think audio is ABR or VBR, not CBR.

LAME has been tuned for 44.1 khz, but you will not notice a difference. I recommend keeping the original 48 khz sampling rate. Please post your logfile (gknot and besweet) for more help.

Eventhough I never resample, thanks for advising to use 48Khz. This info was got from another thread. So thought recommending it. :stupid:

As you are using DivX 3.11, update to GK 0.28.6.3. This update was mainly for divX 3.11 codec.:)
