Hey all,

This question might sound stupid, but I figured this would be the best place to ask, even if just to get pointed in the right direction. I've got a couple of ogm files with sub titiles & dual audio encoded, when I click on them in Windows Explorer, the Ogg Splitter or Direct Show icon appears in the task bar a few times and my CPU usage spikes to like 40%-70%. The issue I am having is that selecting multiple files to copy, move, or even just scrolling through a list causes an error in Windows XP, something like:

Instruction at "0x77f58a67 referenced memory at "0x00080586". The memory cannot be "read". Hit ok to terminate the program.

I get about 4 of these in a row (differnt numbers each time) and then explorer itself crashes and my whole desktop refershes. When I select AVI files and/or MKV files this does not occur, it just happens with OGM files. I found a way to disable the reading of AVI files in Windows Explorer but is there a way to disable the OGM reading features (guessing thats what it is?) when selecting an OGM file in Windows Explorer. Its really annoying since I'm usually watching files that are encoded in OGM and this occurs frequently. The version of Ogg Direct Show Filter installed is v0.9.9.5 and I'm using Kopei's latest XviD, and Direct VOB Sub v2.30. Thanks for any help in advanced.

Thank You

Since I don't use or recommand windows xp, I don't know much about disabling the preview function.

It must be somethng similar to this: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1207/

...you have to disable the preview there for OGM somehow.

Sorry that i can't help much more.

I have fixed this problem by deleting the registry keys that reference shmedia.dll (you can just delete the ones that reference video media properties - {40C3D757-D6E4-4b49-BB41-0E5BBEA28817}, avi properties - {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}, video thumbnail extractor - {c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590} and maybe the audio media properties - {875CB1A1-0F29-45de-A1AE-CFB4950D0B78}). I am not sure exactly which one was causing this problem, I deleted all the keys and the problem went away.

If you do delete these keys be warned that you will no longer get the summary tab in properties of an avi or other video file and you will no longer get thumbnails of video files.

EDIT: You might not need to delete the avi properties key to fix your ogm problem but you should because shmedia.dll will crash if it tries to access a non-standard avi or an avi with errors.
