Best DVD to VCD/SVCD software?

Hello,

Whats the best and easiest software for converting a dvd to an svcd or vcd? I'm looking for something thats very simple to use, but also has good quality. Thanks for any help.

Ah heck, you found us!
It's called DVD2SVCD and this right here is the forum to discuss it and issues arising from it.

The "DVD2SVCD 1.2.1 build 3 is online" sticky at the top of the forum will find you a link. You also need an MPEG encoder - CinemaCraft Encoder or TMPGEnc. Read (carefully) the guides linked from the homepage and off you go.

I was kind of hoping for an all in one program though, like something i can purchase that will do everything for me. Are there any programs out there like that?

There are probably plenty out there but have you tried dvd2svcd?

If you want to try it (for nothing), install the bundle downloaded from the http://www.dvd2dvd.org homepage. Install TMPGEnc Plus (you get a 30-day free trial - http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/index.html)

You only need to set up the options in all the tabs once. Once it's set up how you like it all you need do is put a DVD in the drive, click on the disc icon in the conversion tab and hit go.

You come back after a few hours and you have CD image files ready to burn with no further user intervention. I can't see what could possibly make it easier!

You can no doubt buy software to do the same thing but DVD2SVCD is completely automated, does everything for you, and yet has loads of settings to play with to give you more versatility than anything else I know of. As for the quality, try it out and see for yourself. It'll take some beating!

Give it a free try. If you don't like it, uninstall it. If you do, register TMPGEnc after your 30 days and click the donation link to wire the DVD2SVCD author a few bucks. If you want to look into the alternativesm try the VCD/SVCD authoring forum. This particular forum is dedicated to the DVD2SVCD software so that's what everyone here uses.

The only thing I can think of is automated selection of language (subtitles if not available) using your local regional settings. :)

No need to ask. Just put a CD in the burner and it will be burned automatically at the end of the images creation :)
