DVDFab Cannot Split Pirates of the Caribbean

This disc cannot be copied.

This is the dreaded message that I get. I have the movie decrypted in a folder and using the original purchased DVD.

What gives here? ANy suggestions?

Maybe it will work with a different version of dvdfab, or maybe ifoedit?

I hope so. I'm using DVDFab 1.01. I think there is a 1.02 out. I haven't tried that.

I split the movie with ifoedit .96, but windvd gets errors during playback and crashes, so I'm a little afraid to burn it. I may just try it anyway. I'm wondering if maybe it's a mastering error that needs to be turned on in dvddecryptor?

The Detect Mastering Errors option in dvddecryptor didn't fix it, not sure where the problem lies. The split movie from ifoedit may play fine, but dvdfab works on the split movie from ifoedit so I may pass it again with dvdfab on the split movie and see if that helps or makes any difference at all.

Have you noticed that if you try the main movie option in dvdfab you don't get the error? It's only when you try full disc... wierd...

Well, I ran the disc 1 of the movie split first by ifoedit, and the menus and everything are playing fine in my dvd player. I will watch the entire disc 1 though and then post if the whole movie plays fine. I don't know if passing it through dvdfab is necessary, I'm just doing it just in case.

Remember when splitting with ifoedit, you need to copy all the other files to the folder that it doesn't, in this case 02 through 11. And to have the copy menu files box checked.

Disc 1 played fine, so ifoedit must be the answer for this one.

Maybe so. I noticed also it's when trying to do a full copy only and with the wizard. So, this leads me to believe there is some setting in the IFO's of 'Pirate' that is creating this no-no for DVDFab.

DVDFab does something similar with My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I chose the option to backup the entire disc, specified the source folder and the split screen showed nothing.

I went back to version 0.17.0 and everything worked just fine.

Hmm, may have to try .17 too then. I noticed you get the same error "The Disc can not be copied" for Finding Nemo, widescreen too.

You're right, dvdfab 17.1 seems to be working on the full disc option at first glance for finding nemo. It defaults to pgc 3 which is 2:16, but I think it needs to be changed to pgc 1 for 1:40. The movie is supposed to only be 100 minutes, not sure what the 2:16 pgc is for...

DVDFab full version also doesn't like DVD Decrypted Shaka Zulu discs 1 and 2.

You know, this is really crappy for purchased software considering the free 0.17.0 release works just fine.

How ironic that the pay version has problems. I tried the demo of it and deleted it off my pc right away. The old version works great.

Nope. I don't see any reason to use it. I use dvdfab to do all the stripping out stuff I don't need. If that doesn't make it small enough to do without encoding I then use dvdshrink to cut out the beginning and end. If that isn't enough then I put it into dvd2dvd with cce. Hasn't failed me yet.

Well, guess what? I've found a title which DVDFab 0.17.0 can't handle and 1.01 does. Fantasia 60th Anniversary edition confuses 0.17.0 and it makes 2 dirs, one 7+g, the other just over 1G. Ful version 1.01 properly handles this disc.

I have never been able to play Disc 2 of any title created by DVDFab 0.17.0 or 0.17.1. Is there something that I need to do to make them work?

Well I decided to just burn what DVDFab 0.17.0 put out and see if it played in my standalone and it does, so it works. For some reason Disc 2 does NOT play in IFOEdit DVDPlay feature.

Something's not right with that , but oh well. It worked. It's split.

Pirates, Nemo, Beauty and the Beast, etc. from Disney or it's affiliates cane be VERY complex. IIRC, the Pirates bonues disc has something like 550 individual items. My experience has been the best method is to put a full copy of the menus on each disc. I DO prune stills but keep the entire set of menus if at all possible. Chopping off menu items is a great way to create a dead-end path.

I always make backups, regardless of the disc, because one of my friends has a very...curious and...inquisitive/destructive son. It's not been unusual to turn my attention away for 30 seconds and have a disc be destroyed. (Don't you love how Twix runs an ad showing peanut butter spread on a disc and inserted into a player? Better yet, they run that when kids are watching...)

Better to lose a $1 copy than an original.

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but Pirates can be split with ifoedit. Worked for me.

I ripped all files to the hard drive with dvddecryptor, split it where ifoedit told me too, then copied all other files to both disks that ifoedit didn't put there. Change disk to to Jump to Title 1.

I also just did Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings Extended Version, for that one I used dvdfab, but this one dvdfab had a little trouble with.
Rip entire movie with dvddecryptor to the hard drive. I did full disc option with dvdfab, and then had to copy over the video_ts files from the full movie to both disks and paste over the ones dvdfab created. For this movie, you do not change disk 2 to jump to title 1, if you do that it will display the dvdfab change disk graphic. If you leave it as is it plays fine. So, in a nutshell you do full movie with dvdfab, then copy over the 3 video_ts files from the unsplit movie and paste over them and burn.

In this version, the split engine supports more movie discs such as 'Privates Of The Caribbean', 'Finding Nemo', 'Hulk', etc.
