Hi
I know this subject have been discussed in the forum, but i havent realy found a solution for it.
When I make a Main Movie only with IC8, it undersizes, even though I set the qualyty to maximum (4.38 gb)
I have tried with the movie Unbreakable, and it came out in 3.8 gb, and I just tried another movie now, which came out in 4.02 gb...
I found some registry changes in the forum, but it dosent seem to help.
What can I do ?.. i mean, if there are a waste of 3 - 500 gb each time, I cant use IC8 for anything ...

There really isn't a foolproof way of using InstantCopy and winding up with 4.36 Gigs, spot-on, each and every time. You want to know the truth? The truth is, whenever you actually wind up with 4.36 Gigs on an InstantCopy project, it's just a wild-ass stroke of luck. The registry settings will help *a bit* -- and there are even some size estimation calculators out there (a nod to Mr. Bass). But out of the box? Doing only what Pinnacle tells you to do? Nope. No dice.
But it's not necessarily a waste of software, either! Since filesize doesn't truely indicate image quality (only your own eyes can tell you that!), what really matters is that it IS easy to use, and -- in most cases -- yields some pretty good quality. Which brings us back to the bottom line: Are YOU happy with the results? If not, then there's plenty of options open to you. There's many on this forum who feel that DVD Shrink gives you comparable results to IC -- but always gives you at least 4.35 (you can set it higher if you want to). Just stab around in the forum a bit, if you'd like to learn more about the different transcoders out there.
Have fun!

Right. Not many would argue with the idea that something like CCE would beat ANY transcoder out there, even if it were limited to 4GB. So the question is, is IC8 as good or better at the size it DOES give you than another program that fills the disc fully but has a lesser coding engine? IMO, the difference between IC8 and DVDShrink 3b5 is too close to call, so I use them both, depending on movie. Or occasionally one doesn't work and I use the other. Between the two I don't need anything else.

afaik you will always get undersized results on 1:2,35 movies

You have to download "Instant copy hidden settings" program to set many parameters (maxfilesizedest ecc...). So you can set this parameter to value greater than 4,37Gb and then run IC8

some very old links of mine but they may help :)

I've riped "Alien4" with DVDDecrypter,
next I've splited MainMovie with DVDFab1.5,
I received 5.31GB movie.
Next I set (IC Hidden Settings Editor1.4.2):
-DVDDestSize - 5.00GB (max)
-DVDDestDispalySize - 5.00GB
-DVDSaveQuality - 1% (recommended)
then I ran IC8 and I set 'Copy Method' on 'MainMovieOnly'
after that I received 4.27GB movie.
What can I set in HSE yet so I could raise the final size of the movie?

You could set -DVDSaveQuality to 0%. But 4.27 is pretty good, and IMO will look better than any other "one clicker" at 4.37. If I got that result, I'd call it finished.

Thanks Jester700, I set it and received 4.27GB
What can I set in HSE yet?
What about DVDSaveFast, DVDAnayzeMin/Max, DVDAutoFast?

I set
-DVDSaveQuality: 0%
-DVDAnalyzeMin: 80%
and still 4.27GB

kamanch - you do realise you wont be able to tell the difference quality wise if you gain that little extra size you are after dont you ?
dont sweat it and just use the 4.27gb you got. :)

I have a suggestion for those who are getting large undersizing using Instant copy (300 to 700 mb). Strip all unnecessary audio streams when you rip the movie to the hard drive. Then process the files with Instantcopy. This gives me around 4.25gb final size, with better quality than any other one click transcoder. If you use Instant copy to strip the unwanted audio streams, the video seems to be compressed more. Just my experience.

it's been offline a while now and I don't know if it will be back up. I started running out of webspace so I've been doing a bit of spring cleaning as most of my guides were out dated any way
IC will sometimes reach a limit as getting 4.37Gb is impossible with some DVD's due to the black video content of 2.35:1 movies (I'm sure there is a border setting in IC registry but I never got round to fully testing it)
4.27Gb is a decent result from IC and I guess no matter what settings you use in ICHSE, you will probably not get much higher

IC7 with hidden settings editor will yield better results, IC8 does not seem to pay any attention to the "hidden settings"
I upgraded to IC8 and found it to be a downgrade
