Remux and Author with IfoEdit

Hi there,

I have tried for so long to backup my Star Wars II DVD... The problem I encountered is always the same: The movie plays for a few seconds and then the audio stops and a few seconds later the video freezes as well. I tried two different methods:

1. Extract only the main movie and Angle1 with IfoEdit (0.96)
2. Create a DVD2AVI project. DVD2AVI indicate FILM (not 99% or 100%, just "FILM")
Method A:
3. Extract all frames positions with the "Create TMPG T." button
4. Encode the movie (3:2 pulldown on playback to get the 23.976 -> 29.97)
5. Remux with IfoEdit.

Method B:
3. Extract ac3+subs with VobEdit06
4. Encode the movie (3:2 pulldown on playback to get the 23.976 -> 29.97)
5. Author a new DVD with IfoEdit, using the new m2v, and extracted AC3+subs

Both methods give the same result: Everything looks fine, I can fast forward/backward through my movie fine (even go chapter to chapter with Method A) and as soon as I try to watch the movie, it works for a few seconds and everything freezes... I tried to use the DVD2AVI "Forced Film" option, and as that didn't work, I did a manual IVTC in TMPGEnc. Same result. Then I even tried to encode my movie as 29.97 interlaced. No luck there either.

I have read that IfoEdit cannot handle NTSC telecine right... Is that the problem? Maybe there could be a mention about that in the guides!

I also tried for the sake of it to make a DVD out of an old DivX I have. The divx has an AC3 soundtrack and is progressive 23.976. I encoded that with telecine, so the resulting is 29.97. Same result with that. I then tried to let my M2V file as progressive 23.976, same thing...

Does IfoEdit just not work with telecine? Can someone add that to the guides?

isn't SW II a multi PGC title?

I'm not sure if you can remux it back in if you just extract one PGC and angle :(

you could extract the movie title you want using another program that will modify the IFO's, something like DVDShrink in reauthor

then demux and process with whatever you want and remux

Here is how I separated the angle1:

1. I ripped the DVD on my HDD
2. I opened the main movie IFO with IfoEdit 0.96
3. I clicked on VOB extras
4. I chose Angle1, and "Create new IFO files (Movie Only)".
5. I clicked OK.

The resulting set of files is a valid DVD that worked on my DVD player (I used DVDShrink to make it the right size))

Maybe an older version of IfoEdit would work better?

I don't think the problem comes from my DVD (SWII) as I did an AVI test and it still didn't work :confused:

I also have additional informations. I use the TMPGEnc "DVD NTSC" template, but for the framerate, which i set to 23.976 (internally 29.97 with telecine)

My GOP is IBBPBBPBBPBBPBBP (1/5/2) and my MAX GOP size is 18 (as per NTSC DVD spec), but I figured that this number - maybe - applies to a true NTSC DVD, not a telecine-NTSC DVD. So this max number of 18 means that a GOP can be MAX 0.6 seconds. In a 23.976 fps movie, that would mean 14.4 Max...

Does anyone knows if that could be the problem? The maximum number of pictures in a GOP in the original DVD is 15 (including the I frame) and the "standard" GOP is 1/4/2, not 1/5/2.
