I have used earlier versions of Virtual Dub and DivX on my WinME laptop with no problem, but after installing DivX 5.1Pro and Virtual Dub 1.5.9 on my new XP Pro machine I am encountering a strange problem.

The first time in any session that I load a DV format video file and attempt to compress to DivX, Virtual Dub immediately stops responding - even before the process window opens up. I have to use the Task Manager to shut Virtual dub down - and even this takes 3-4 minutes before it is able to close.

However, if I just wait a few minutes and re-open Virtual Dub it functions perfectly!

Any ideas?

Hello floater121, welcome to Doom9's forum.

I'm moving this to the VirtualDub forum, where you might be able to get some application specific assistance.

Just a suggestion - delete the virtualdubmod directory and re-unzip the files.

I had a freeze with vdubmod 1.5.10.1 - as soon as I updated to this version (just unzipping) it would freeze as soon as I opened a file. I deleted the directory's contents (not the plugins dir though) and reunzipped the files, and everything works again now.

Thanks for the input, but I am only running VirtualDub - not VDubMod. Are there ANY known bugs in VDub that should be avoided when setting up to render to avoid such freezes?
