I was trying to back up "The Truth About Charlie" R1......
The VIDEO_TS.VOB file is 489 mb's. After previewing the video in that file, it apears that the trailer for the movie is in there something like 7 times, one after another. I thought maybe they did one for each language setting or something.
I tried using NuMenu4U (final version), but didn't get the proper results. I then started trying a bunch of different stuff. I used NuMenu4U R4 to redo the menu, and it stripped out the trailer portion of the video altogether, leaving just the warning screens and such (all of them are stills). This resulted in a vob size of just 1.5 mb's. Then I thought I'd try merging my own reworked trailer video(just 1 instance of it, instead of 7) onto the end of it.
When testing out the end result using power dvd, I found that when I selected to play the trailer, nothing at all would happen. It was as if there was nothing there at all.
Becoming suspicious, I began to check all the movie vob sets on the disk to see what they were. Remember I was just working with the VIDEO_TS.VOB file and ifo & bup files only, that NuMenu4u spit out.
To my amazement, VTS set 3 contained....yup you guessed it......the trailer!! After copying over VTS_03_1.VOB into the folder with the ifo files, and the 1.5mb VIDEO_TS.VOB file, I loaded the movie back up into power dvd once more. This time, when I selected to play the trailer, it began playing right away!!
So, to make an already long story short..... Universal video created a dummy VIDEO_TS.VOB file, but they did it in a really sinister way. They filled the file with 7 or 8 iterations of the trailer. To the casual observer, it appears that all of the video is necessary when in reality it isn't. I ended up just leaving the 1.5 mb VIDEO_TS.VOB file that NuMenu4u created as it was.
I like the end result though, because if you have been paying attention this far, you'll see that my 489 mb VIDEO_TS.VOB file is now only 1.5 mb's!!
So, hopefully this thread can help someone else out, and save them some time (and space!)
