Btw:

What happened to the 'avs2matroska' project? I think this one should output native MPEG4-MKV as well. I found the file but I think Christian mentioned some kind of bug. AFAIK avs2mkv was linked against XviD. What happened to the author?

What happened ? DaveEL irreversibly screwed the working code he had in an alcohol excess :D .... LOL !

Since then there was no progress on it anymore, unfortunately :( ....

I still have a working version of the program on my HDD, but this version is compiled against an old version of libmatroska and as using an old version of the frame referencing system, so the files created with it are native, but not spec compliant :O !

The only way to use this working program, was to convince Mosu to add reading capability to the old frame referencing system, and then to remux the files as valid files .... but i have no idea if this was even possible with current libmatroska to be honest :O !

Where's DaveEL now? Are the sources available (I didn't find them on his homepage)?

Nah, thanks, but I knew where to find it. I'd rather have a look at the sources. If it was working once, it shouldn't be so difficult to get it working again. The task would be easiest for the programmer...

I'm still thinking of how to make native MPEG4-MKV. What's the current status? Can they get decoded? Can one generate them in Linux?

O.K. I tried, but I couldn't open the example mp4.mkv file. Both VirtualDubMod and mkvmerge crashed :(
