View Full Version : GKnot Causing Slow Encoding

I thought I had noticed a slow-down in encoding since switching to DivX 5.1.x and I finally found the problem. When GKnot sets the DivX5 parameters, it's setting it 'Performance=Slow (or slowest)' and causing a horrible slow down in encoding. I can run the same encode (everything identical except I set the codec up manually in VDubMod) and I get the encoding speeds I expect. Has anyone else noticed this? I get 2-4fps when GKnot starts the encode, and the expected 10-15fps when I do it (P3 900mhz, 512MB RAM).

GKnot Settings are follows (from .settings file, GKnot says it's on 'Standard' performance....)

Please delete divx5 default settings from GK forder when upgrading the codecs and set them again on options tab. Then normal encoding mode will be remembered properly...

Would it matter that GKnot was installed after DivX on a fresh install of XP? I'll try it.

then you shouldn't have any problems really with those settings...

Same result after deleting the DivX5 settings files in the GKnot directory. All the codec settings say 'Standard' within GKnot, but it sure as hell doesn't encode at the speed it should. Any other ideas on the cause of this? (Still getting expected encoding speeds when manually running)

disabling feedback window probably ? (just a thought)

Not enabled. It's just weird, but I guess I'll deal with setting up the jobs in VDub manually (not that it's that big of a deal).

That's the reason. This means slow. If it should be 5 for Normal speed.

Make sure you saved the defaults with normal speed...
