Can I do this with Photoshop???

I have Photoshop7, and this is my problem:

I have these BMP files (subtitle bitmaps) that are labeled

blackrose00001.bmp
blackrose00002.bmp

and so on. I need to make the file name for all 988 of them to be

blackrose0_0001.bmp
blackrose0_0002.bmp

I thought I could do the Photoshop automated action thing, so I opened it, start recording, then immediatly resave as blackrose0_0001.bmp, hoping it would continue to increment one, but instead it just keeps saving over 0_0001.

So how can I (with Photoshop or another way) make it so all of the bitmaps have a underscore after the first 0??

We did this a lot in the old MS-DOS days. Open a command prompt, navigate to the directory where the files are, and enter the following command:

ren blackrose0*.bmp blackrose0_*.bmp

IrfanView has a batch rename function.

Batch rename is always a little scary, regardless of how you do it (DOS or GUI). Make sure you back up your directory before you start.

Photoshop 7 has a batch process mode, I'm surprised you didn't find it...

It's in the File menu, under "Automate," and allows you to specify various parts of the final filename etc.

Win XP will allow you to do this. select all the files you want to rename, right click and type in blackrose0_.bmp. It will rename everything sequencally.
