Now that DivX 5.1.1 has been released, which the best codec to encode MPEG-2 (DVD)? DivX 5.1.1 or XviD Koepi's build 24062003?

compareing DivX vs such an old XviD version is ridiculous when compare it vs XviD Devapi4 in terms of Detail Preservation even @ low bitrates i think nothing can beat XviD @ the moment :)

Sure it can, with the objective of having more people go with DivX Pro, I'd say DivX Pro is quite clearly best ;) lol

'People' use DivX Pro.
Professionals use Xvid.
It's the objective.
