the only dvd drive i haveright now is in my xbox, just wondering if i could copy vob file from there to my hard drive and then decrypt using smart ripper or do u have to rip from the disk

Encrypted DVD means you cannot copy vob from DVD to HDD. For this we all are using de-crypters like DVD decrypter.
The encryption is done on the DVD structure, so you need to decrypt from the DVD itself.
After decrypting you can copy it as simple as any mp3 file do.(takes more time though..:D )
