They'll really have to organize some decent secure delivery system first. I wonder what format they will addopt. Real media? Probably Windows Media if MS has any involvement. Maybe a new format?

Every seciruty can be cracked and bypassed. The problem movie industry is facing is the same as the videogame industry. A PC is powerfull :)

sure, but it's not always easy. The new PayTV systems are not cracked yet and PayTV crackers really know their stuff...

hmm... I just read in c't today that you don't have to break the encryption to get free pay tv. Plus, ask any cryptographer what he/she thinks about security through obscurity (i.e. standards where the encryption routines are not known and thus have never undergone the scrutiny established cryptography standards have).. it makes one think that the makers of the cryptosystem have something to hide. If your encryption scheme is robust, you're not afraid to have the brightest minds test it. BTW, my crypto teacher was in the news once or twice last year but that's all I'm willing to say ;) At least he apparently knows what he's talking about...

DirecTV (example of a PayTV) uses an RSA derivative, certainly not obscure. Their encryption has never been cracked, all intrusions have been through weaknesses in the hardware (i.e. susceptible to electrical charges, etc.)
