Is it legal

I was wondering if I can carry all the rips that I have made, while flying anywhere. Is there any legal issues at Airports...whatsoever?

CDs can be blank or have personnal pictures. They can't ask you to load them into their computers.

Me too, I think it's like carrying your books or booknotes.

Anyway, since you ripped by fair use, you shouln't even be concerned.

Thanks for the reply guys...but again my concern is..if the airport security wants to know what are the contents in the CDs,do I have to hide the fact or tell it. One more thing...all my Cds have the movie name scribbled on it...in CAPS :rolleyes: SO.....??

I'd go even further: I'd tell them, even if not asked: "I also bring this CDs with movies encoded under fair use. I recommend you to do the same to lifeguard the expensive DVDs your have at home".

if you own the DVDs then you don't have anything to worry about, if you don't, just hide that fact :devil:

It may vary depending on the country the airport is located. I see you are in India. If you were to travel to say, Saudia Arabia, that has very strict control over what is allowed in the country, you may find them confiscated. They would want to search them for unsuitable/illegal content.

It has been years ago, but when I worked in Saudia Arabia, Customs would take videos and search them for material that they deemed unsuitable, basically anything more than showing any woman skin. I traveled to Nepal and brought back a Buddist figure. Customs took it but I was able to get it held in storage until I could arrange to have it sent back out. I was luckly since they usually just smashed whatever they wanted to into bins lining the baggage check areas in customs.

Hey Ripplefactor,

Don't worry about the cd's dude. Customs won't check what's in them. Unless ofcourse if ur flying to Pakistan... which isn't possible anyway anymore. You won't have any problems @ all even if u were flying out with Pirated DvD's. The customs ofcouse is rather strict with the stuff that u bring in. if you bring DvD's with you from outside India, then better be prepared to answer questions about their value. They'd let u go with 8-10 DvD's but more than that and they are going to ask you to declare value. They do have the right to confiscate if they feel the movies will be resold. But it's seriously not a big issue. Chalta hai yaar.

If ur still paranoid, then just don't carry the DVD boxes with you, use plastic bags for the Disks and carry the covers neatly folded with the Disks. Nobody will raise an eyebrow unless ofcourse u walk in with a suitcase full of DVD's & electronics like I did. But then the Customs Inspector was my cousin :) Trust me they don't & can't check inside CD's.

And even if they put the CDs into their computer, there should be no problem or do you think that this computer has DivX Decoder or ffdshow installed ?:D
