View Full Version : Problem with DVD Shrink

I want to use SHRINK to reduce the files on my hard drive to burn a DVD on one disk. After I open SHRINK I click on "open files" and am presented with a box that asks for to "look in" I then enter the name of the folder where I have the files, STNEMISIS and in the box below the folder VIDEO_TS appears. I then click on the folder and only one file called VTS 06 0 appears. This is probably because on the bottom of the box the "files of type;" is listed as "DVD Navigation Files (*.ifo). If I change the selection to: "All Files (*.*) the I get all the files in that folder. I don't understand what the program wants but anyway whatever I enter I get a dialox box that says "DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue this operation. file doesn't exist. the reason is: the system cannot find the specified file. Then if I click OK to get rid of the notice there's another box that says "Please wait while DVD shrink analyses your DVD" The main screen somewhere along the way has changed to "Full Disk" and several files appear. If I click on "Main Movie" the correct movie plays in the small box below. So now what? I'm totally confused by this program. I believe that at some point I'm supposed to select "Re-author" but first I'd like to know what I'm doing
wrong or is there something wrong with the program?

Welcome to the forums, Andre123. :)
When using "Open Files" you need to select the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" file.
If this file is not present you will either need to rip the DVD again, making sure you select all the files (as decribed here (http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php)), or use IfoEdit or DVDFab to create the missing IFOs. ;)

It sounds like you have an incomplete DVD on your hard drive (based on the fact that you only see VTS_06_0.IFO).
I believe the first think that Shrink does when you select a file is look for the VIDEO_TS.IFO in the same directory. VIDEO_TS is the file that lists the titles on the DVD, and everything in Shrink is based on titles.
Anyway, when Shrink can't find the VIDEO_TS.IFO, it generates the error message you reported - file not found. Apparently it then stumbles along as best it can. I have no idea if Shrink will work if you continue at that point, but it's fairly fast so you could just try it and see.
Alternatively, I recommend you start again by ripping the entire DVD, or at least use a tool like DVDFab (old free version available on doom9) to create a dummy VIDEO_TS.IFO for what you've already ripped.
[edit] looks like ddlooping and I are on the same wavelength.

Unforunately I no longer have the original disk. It was lost when I
moved. What follows is the files I had recorded on the hard disk. They
play very well on PowerDVD. What follows is a copy of the files as they appear on the hard drive except that they appear with EVERTHING
underscored even the VTS's but I don't know how to duplicate that from the keyboard. Maybe you could tell me?
VTS_06 - Cell Information - CCE
VTS_06 - Chapter Information - CCE
VTS_06 - Chapter Information - IfoEdit
VTS_06 - Stream Information
VTS_06_0
VTS_06_1
VTS_06_2
VTS_06_3
VTS_06_4
VTS_06_5
Would it work if I took out the first 4 items which are text files?
I don't remember which program I had used to decrypte these files but I think it was DVDdecrypter in IFO mode. The reason I want to make a disk copy is to free up some hard disk space.
