View Full Version : Is there a DS filter other than ac3filter/odio dekoda ?

I was wandering to find any other ac3 filter to decode. I have been using ac3filter/odio dekoda for some time now. But it feels, the output of these filters are not giving as much quality as software DVD players (Power DVD, WinDVD..) , especially in LFE region and overall output volume.
So thought asking the above question.
Thanks

The only other AC3 Dshow filter option I know of would to be one of the latest FFDshow pre-alpha builds here (http://athos.leffe.dnsalias.com/) with audio support, these builds have an option to decode AC3. I have not tested this, but the decoding is based on liba52 so it will probably be quite similar to AC3Filter which is also based on liba52.
I've had no such problems with AC3Filter but I connect via s/pdif.

Thanks KpeX,
I will check it out.
BTW, I have a Sblive card and analoge speakers (No SPDIF). May be SPDIF pass through sounds great...:( .
I think it is the time for upgradation.
Thank you :)

hmm.. I hadn't really known there was an ffdshow decoder until I started watching a movie and the sound was only coming from the front left speaker. Then it was back to ac3filter for me again.

I purchased WinDVD and the Audio Booster Pack just for the AC3 and DTS filters, but I use MPC for pretty much everything.
If you have a KX-compatible soundcard (EMU 10kx--Audigy and others) you could try the AC3 decoder in Eugene's KX driver: www.kxproject.com
Some KX AC3 features are still under development, but the decoder works most of the time.
Of course Creative Labs has a decoder in their driver too.

@ calinb,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I really own a Sblive value card and no internal ac3decoder. BTW, I'm using Kx drivers 3535f now.:)

Are you pointing, the KXproject drivers include ac3 decoder, that doesn't require H/W decoder ? :)

Calinb, How can I do the same ? (Can you explain in detail...so this newbie (me) can learn )
Thanks.

Then will DTS be taken, only because of installing WinDVD.
Or I need something else.
Thanks

For DTS, you also need Gabest's AVI <-> AC3/DTS Filter, in addition to the Intervideo filter. Be aware that with the WinDVD 5 release, DTS capability is an extra "Audio Booster Pack" add-on.

The KX AC3 decoder works the same as the CL decoder--you have to put your player ap in AC3 passthrough mode. Then you can go to the KX mixer main panel and enable the AC3 decoder. I can't remember if you have to turn KX "AC3 Passthrough" off or what, but you can play with the two lower left hand side controls in the main mixer screen. You should see a little "AC3" icon pop up for an instant when you stop/start the playback.

I installed windvd audio booster pack and did install the ac3/dts filter by gabest. The Inter video decoder channel configuration is greyed for over 2 channel (I cannot select more than 2 channel). Do I need any thing more?
At this stage I could conclude its better than ac3 filter. But there found to be audio sync problems when playing a ac3 muxed MKV file. Do you have any similar problems ?. ( This file plays well with ac3 filter  )
As pictures reflects more than words, here is the screen shots of the configurations i use/get.

EDIT:
I don't know why the link doesn't work when clicked. . But it works when you click and hit enter in address bar.
Thank you.

(It's 2ch by default.) If you're using CL or some other soundcard, did you enable 5.1 speakers in Windows "Sounds and Multimedia?"
I've not had any sync problems with mkv. I usually use the built-in filters in MPC, but I've used the registered ones too. I usually mux with mkvmerge gui, but I've occasionally used Vdubmod. With the new lacing in mkvmerge, I'm using it exclusively.

Thanks for the suggestions, but i have already enabled 4.1 in KX mixer. ( My card is Creative SBLive Value 4.1 without built-in ac3 decoder CT4832 10k1)
BTW, The MKV file I used to test was made with mkvmerge GUI, so there is no muxing problem.
I can confirm this file play without problem when using ac3filter.
Can anybody point me what is wrong ?
Thanks
