Hi all,

I've read something in this forum about difference between encoders and transcoders. till now I've worked only with TmpGenc and Ifoedit but I've had problems with DVD with angles (Shrek, Star wars, Snowwhite ecc..) so I decide to try transcoders I've chosen DVDShrink and IC8 because I've read that both work better than others (or I am wrong??) and I started with "Star wars 1 The phantom menace". At end seeing both DVD on my standalone player I must tell that I can't see some difference. Both have good quality. Instead seiing on my computer with PowerDVD (Show information checked) I've seen difference in bitrate. DVDShrink has a more costant bitrate (it seems that cut high bitrate) instead IC8 has low bitrate for static scenes and high bitrate for dinamic scenes more closed to the original and I think that it is better. What do you think about???

this is probably why IC is less accurate in it's sizing than DVDShrink

the full-on specs are somewhere in this forum as to exactly what goes on in each

I agree with you as I hate seeing artifacts during fast scenes but sometimes they are on the original so there is no escaping, as it also depends on the quality of the transfer

@MachemX

Thanks for your reply. Maybe I'm wrong but I have thinked that IC8 has worked better because I have more variable bitrate to cover dinamic and static scenes. However, at end, I think that I'll use DVDShrink because is freeware, is more fast and easy to use and I've seen difference only using PowerDVD zoomed at 9x and only in dynamic scenes but none on TV. Thanks again and bye.
