Try to flash dvd-rom Teac 516E

i browsed a lot of net staff about flashin, found region-free firmware mtkflash utility and there is a point: seriously looking guy said for this dvd-rom is best to use mtkflash, but for me it doesn't work!!! it hangs off everytime i enter command mtkflash {num. of ide chanel}..etc
{i rebooted in dos mode (with winme cd and in different dvd-rom drive)}
please help(or where to find help..)

Did you try a real dos boot disk?

s41, it might turn out that you were lucky that you could not flash your drive (or you could not flash the drive becouse the patch was incorrect). This drive has two variants, one with 512 KB buffer and another with 256, which are not interchangable. You can check that with NeroInfoTool (find it on www.cdspeed2000.com). For the 256KB variant a.k.a. Teac DV-516E-A there is no region free (RPC1) firmware yet. Unfortunately, this drive is widely spread according to my observations, so it is possible that you have it.

that serious guy I mentioned recommended me the same link :) and i used original WinMe installation disk to boot to dos (i don't have floppy)

It is also possible to solve the "region" problem with software. There are several programs that can do that, but offhand I can remember only one - "DVD Region Free" (that's the name of the program). :)

Just don't try changing the region of your drive too many times. ;)

yes, yes, yes, you were right my dvd-rom is with 256 kb cache, so i'm still waiting...(i'll write it to mi signature to make sure not forget)

i'm already using dvd region free and similar programs to rip american region 1 dvds(my reg is 2;)), but i wanted to F.O.R.C.E. reading all region dvds. thanx
