Hi have a a pioneer ao4 and i'm ripping at 2x and was wondering if there is a drive out there that would rip faster. i have heard that poeple get up to speeds of 12x. what is the best drive for ripping at that speeds? perfferably a combo drive. i was thinking of getting the samsung sm-352b it's 16x dvd and 52x24x52. IS that drive any good for ripping? thanks for the help

rule #8

i could tell you what it is, but it's better if you read it yourself; and maybe the ones before and after that (if you have the time)

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61859 (you probably already red it)

i think it's all a matter of opinion, just cause someone is able to rip at a certain speed, doesn't mean another person can do the same (but that's just what i think)

@kyotic,

Normally, I would agree this is a forum rule violation. There is no general 'best', but only a best for each situation. On the other hand, you did not ask what was the best DVD drive, but only the best DVD drive for ripping. So in this case I think I can hazard a reply without causing too much dissension:

As a general consensus, I believe Plextor drives are considered the best for ripping. I think doom9 swears by them as well as Tord of BladeEnc, and Andre Wiethoff writer of Exact Audio Copy says:You will get the best results when using Plextor CD-ROM drives. Hopefully, there is no one out here that will be taken aback to learn that his drive is not the 'best'.
