I have been trying to make backups from my backups, originals lost in divorce, with no luck in trying to copy the files. I read on a forum about using DVDFAB to copy DVD's. A movie that is 4.36G that fits on 1 dvd when using DVDFAB makes 2 seperate discs at around 2.1G each.
Am I doing something wrong? Now I have to try and join them together using DVD2ONE. DVDFAB has no trouble reading the files from dvd copies but why does it make 2 seperate disks. any help would be apperciated

To copy a copy:
Use windows explorer, copy all the files to a folder on the HD and burn with your favorite burning prog.
Thats all.

Hi
I'll add 3 more options
use DVDDecrypter in ISO mode and then make an ISO, which you can burn with DVDDecrypter :)
NERO can do a straight DVD copy (on the fly if want and you have 2 DVD drives)
a twist on maa's suggestion. If you do have 2 drives then you can use any burning software you want as long as you can read the DVD quicker than you can burn it. Just open explorer and drop these files into any burning program such as Nero, RNM etc
the last two methods can be done 'on the fly' making it faster but may result in a coaster if the disc cannot be read
there's quite a few ways to backup a backup :)

I have tried using explorer to copy the files but it usually bomb's out on vob 1 or 4. I tried using both of my readers and also the burner to no avail. The movie in question is Glory.I kept getting file not found or some other error. But DVDFAB had no problem reading it. I didn't try using DVDdecrypter in ISO because I was told that you can't use ISO with windows ME. Thanks for trying to help

gmartin I thinks that's to do with 4Gb limits
I'm pretty sure you can split the file into segments, I think I did it just the other day with 1GB segments, just check the ISO mode options ;)
I'm not sure if you can burn afterwards but I don't see why not if Decrypter created the files in the 1st place. I just never use that option to burn
what about DVDShrink in No Compression mode?. Does it read it?
I have used a multiple of programs before to rip all the VOB's on a dodgy DVD and basically rebuilt it manually by putting all the VOB's into one folder along with a fresh copy of the IFO's

I'm probably reading your problem wrong, but if these DVD's are already the proper size to fit on a single DVD-R, just rip them with dvddecryptor and write with any dvd burning software. Nero, recordnowmax(my favorite), EZCDCreator etc. Don't bother with DVVDFab, dvd2one etc. Your files as is are probably fine as is.

Better yet, rip with DVDDecrypter in ISO mode, then burn with DVDDecrypter.

I gave gdmartin the benefit of the doubt that he had used File mode in DVDDecrypter so that's why I suggested ISO Mode then splitting as he only uses ME. Maybe he didn't try the obvious option which is File mode lol :D
if it's still a no go, I would try to rip the problem VOB's by themselves using DVDFAB and try to keep them complete
if you can rip then rip the rest of the DVD using DVDDecrypter minus the files you cannot rip in file mode. Drop the other problem VOB's from DVDFAB into this folder and you will have one complete DVD
what are the exact VOB's you are having trouble with and how big are they?
if they are huge and you cannot get DVDFAB to keep them complete I have another suggestion for you ;)

Hi gdmartin,
Which version of DVDFab do you use? Please try the latest version of DVDFab 1.01 at http://www.dvdidle.net/download/DVDFab101.exe to see the result. Please use the "Wizard" function, and you should can get the "Copy DVD5" suggestion.
Best Regards,

I'm confused. I re-read the whole thread, and it doesn't look like he's tried DVDDecrypter in ISO mode yet.
I've ripped several DVDs in ISO mode on my Win98 machine (FAT32) and it works just fine. The ISO splits into 2 or 3 parts (just 2 with a DVD5) with extension I00, I01, I02, along with an MDS file. I'm pretty sure you can then burn by selecting the MDS file in DVDDecrypter.
I don't know why it wouldn't work the same on WinME. It's certainly worth a try.
PS. If he's having problems ripping VOB1 or VOB4 with Decrypter, I can understand all the gyrations, but there's no mention of that in the thread (just problems in Explorer). I don't want to jump to conclusions either way, but I also don't want to force him thru the gyrations when a simpler solution might work.

gdmartin hasn't came back with any reply but I guess you missed this POST (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=400966#post400966) as it's already been suggested to use ISO splitting mode. I had suggested he just use ISO mode in a post before that but he mentioned ME so I told him to split it using ISO mode ;)
it looks like DVDFab is his best solution :)

I want to thank all who responded to my problem. Vob 1 and vob 4 usually are the hard ones to copy for me. I will try and use ISO in dvd decrypter. I took the dvd in question over to a friend of mine for him to try. After trying 2 seperate dvd roms and his burners, he couldn't copy it either. Last resort was to try a older burner he has not used in awhile and it read it fine. It just seems strange to me why there would be a problem as the dvd has already been ripped, burned and plays on my stand alone player as well as power dvd and also plays in IFOedit. thanks

I ain't got a clue though but I would say playing and ripping(copying) are probably two different things as faults during playback will just show up in the picture
it only takes one byte of info to stop a DVD but if it is overlooked while playing
some roms also read better than other and there's a couple of times I have had to stick my old Samsung DVDROM into my PC to read a problem DVD that my Pioneer burner or Liteon cannot read
maybe one of the guys knows the technicalities?
