View Full Version : OMG This is hopelessly slow

I did my last encode a while ago with DivX 5.03. Now i downloaded a new DivX 5.1 (and beta 5.1.1), ripped 1 movie and encoding it took over 24 hours with my XP 2800+ based system!
This is simply unacceptable. I need my comp for CPU intesive tasks during day and i can't have encodes that can't be done over night.
I don't even see much of a quality improvement over DivX 5.03.

So why this is so slow when there is very little quality improvement? I think this is a big step backwards from DivX networks.

If i set the new 5.1.1 in such a way that it encodes about the same speed that 5.03 did, do i get the same guality or little better?

Or should i make a long journey to Xvid world?

Hi mustaneekeri,

The slow encoding speed of DivX 5.1 is due to new encoding algorithms' implementation. You must have selected slow/slowest mode for your encodes.
The standard mode in DivX5.1 is equvalent to slowest mode in DivX 5.05. So if you want the speed of 505, then you need to change the slider to standard position.

BTW, DXN has released DivX 5.1.1b2 with improved encoding speed.

The search button will give you more information on this.

Hmm i ripped another movie and i didn't have time to wait so i cancelled the encode after 1st pass.
Can i download 5.1.1b2 and continue second pass with that?

Its not worthy to change codec in the middle, I would suggest to use it for completely fresh encoding.
