Help with Exporting a movie from Adobe Premiere 7

I'm trying to produce an SVCD and a DivX (or Xvid doesn't matter to me) from a movie I have captured from a DV camera (I used a tripod by the way so it's not shaky, if that matters) and edited extensively.

The program's standart encoders are not good. I have tried it's SVCD encoder and it's SVCDs while viewable on a computer have a problem on DVD players. The picture shakes whenever I used a freeze-frame effect to stop it for a moment (shakes, that is - jumps between two frames in the freeze time instead iof being one frame as it is on PowerDVD for example).

I have tried to do DivX, but it had horrible artifacts everytime sowone moved.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what steps do I have to take in order to achieve this goal of a film watchable outside of Premiere ?

Welcome to the DV forum.

There are two guides in the sticky threads at the top of this forum: "DV to DivX" and "DV to DVD". The first one should help you with your DivX problem, the latter is for DVD, but if you change your encoder settings to SVCD compatible, you should be able to get along. To burn you SVCD you can use e.g. Nero or VCDEasy.

In Premiere the only DV option I have is Microsoft DV AVI. Is that DV type 1 or type 2? Or do I need to download codecs for DV type 1 or 2?

As far as I know there's no type-2 codec from Microsoft. On the other hand I think Premiere should be able to export type-2, too.

Maybe one of the Premiere users can help out.

Premiere expotr type-2, in order to open it with MediaPlayer or Vdub you have to install a DV codec (Canopus,MainConcept for ex), you can however open it with Avisynth "DirectShowSource"
