Hi!

I wonder if compressibility settings (eg. qpel, VHQ mode etc. in XviD or Psychovisual enhancements in Divx, in fact all except quantizer) should be set in the same way they are set during compression of concrete movie? Or should I leave them at default, high-end settings, because that?s how compressibility test works?

Regards,
Chris

Welcome to Doom9's forum, Killgore.

It has been my experience, and therefore, it is my recommendation, that you should always use the exact same settings and filters for compressibility tests that you use when encoding. And, any time you change one of these filters/settings, you should retest prior to encoding.

I will usually not bother retesting if I'm only making small changes in resolution. But if I'm changing AviSynth filters, changing codec features, or making large changes in resolution or bitrate, I always retest.

(If I plan a lot of tests, I'll often start with 1% or 2% tests just to speed things along, then move to 5% for my final tests).
