Here (http://www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/mpeg4software.html) you can download the mp4 player and encoder. (Doom9's news)

Has anybody already tried the encoder ?
Any opions on the quality ?
Is is another challenger for Divx and Xvid and of course the others...?

I am just curious.

I am just curious. I gave it a go today.

Unfortunately it is only capable of generating 1pass CBR encodes. Albeit with AAC audio within an MP4 container!

You can't input Mpeg1 or 2 streams either. So without 2pass VBR and no direct show filters to borrow I can't see that it offers very much more than say QuickTime Pro offers!

It does however, have an very easy to use GUI though - once you get past the startup 'stream' option. Which prospective developers might want to take a look at before creating their own encoder....

Yes please. Cheers

looked (too) smooth and the gui really is minmalistic, one can enter the desired datarate and the keyframe distance and that's it (for video).

Cu Selur

Ps.: From the looks of it up-to-now I don't think it's challanger for DivX/Xvid/3ivx.
