Hello, friends,
I always used Gordian Knot for encoding my movies.
The problem now is that I see Telecine on a movie, but when I try to use that option of GK Telecide, I get my film skipping from time to time. What parameters should I try to change in order to discover what kind of telecine I have on this movie ?
Thanks in advance,
Dihelson

Start with this tutorial on Inverse Telecine (http://www.doom9.org/ivtc-tut.htm). You may merely have interlace artifacts, and it may not be Telecined. The tutorial will help you figure out what you have, and what to do about it. The Gknot forum has a sticky thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34718) about the tutorial you must have missed.

Can you explain a little more. What kind of movies are you trying to back-up (NTSC,PAL) ?

My movie: NTSC, 16:9
Movie: ATTILA.
INTERLACED.
I tried De-interlace, but that's not the case, I see Ghosts on fast lateral moviments, a sword moviment is like 10 swords...
I read a little bit of that Telecine Tutorial, but I fell it is a little difficult, I need a fast solution, like a software which could analyse the DVD itself, or the DVDtoAVI project and tell what kind of telecine I have on the movie. What kind of sequence.
Hey Fellows, something easy to use, I don't know how to "program" complex scripts on Avisynth...
Someone should invent a software which could interact with DVDtoAVI and choose automatically TELECIDE... !!
Thanks in advance,
Dihelson

I think you need to Inverse Telecine (IVTC). For that select Inverse telecine in field options, and also check "correct frame count" option in the window poping up after you save AVS.

The program is already available in the alpha stage, GKIF4U, look to that thread. It can decide what de-interlacing to be applied and everything is automated.
Check out and report back.
#EDIT#
now 0.4 beta, and I have tested it. its giving excellent results.

You'll find the "GordianKnotItFast4U" thread here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266) in the GK Development Forum. I haven't used it, so can't comment on it.
The Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) knows of 10 different versions of Attila, but only one that has been published in DVD form. It was a 2001 miniseries made for USA Network Inc.
According to IMDB, this was shot on 35mm film, and the only DVD available is R1, NTSC. Therefore, the content was likely Telecined, and and a manual Inverse Telecine (IVTC) is the likely solution.
In Gknot, you can select "Inverse Telecine" from the "Save .avs" window that pops up when you press the "Save & Encode" button on the preview window. As Tuning recommends, also click on the "IVTC in avs -> correct frame count" box on the encoding tab that pops up after saving the .avs.
The reason you need to correct the frame count that the video Gknot is working with from the .d2v is 29.97 fps, and after going through the .avs script, the video given to the encoder is 23.976fps.
Many NTSC transfers have flags that allow R4R or DVD2AVI to use an automatic IVTC feature called "Force FILM" which produces a .d2v with 23.976fps video. That is not always the case, and a manual IVTC must be performed.

Hello, Friends,
>"IVTC in avs -> correct frame count" box
Thank you for trying to help.
Unfortunatelly, EVEN this couldn't solve the problem.
May be the Telecine is somewaht diferent than GK can detect.
I made it using De-interlace, but I got all the ghosts on it.
When I use Telecide - Inverse telecine- I get excellent results in eliminating ghosts , but sometimes I notice some skippings.
Thanks,
Dihelson

Then the problem is with DVD itself, So you need to use special AVS scripts with special methods to overcome the skippings. Can you explain how the skipping occur ?. Is it occuring continiously throught the movie ? or only in some regions ?

:logfile: :script: Both of these will be helpful to us. When posting the AviSynth script (.avs file), you can leave off any line beginning with "#", as those are comments.

Hi-

Possibly. When you step through the .d2v in GKnot, do you see the standard 3 progressive followed by 2 interlaced frame pattern? Or do you see something different?
