May not be the right forum, but...
I was wondering if it's possible to receive a TV signal on a PC if I'm hooked up to the internet via cable modem, since the TV signal comes through the same cable anyway. I don't have a tuner card.
Any information and insight as to why or why not would be greatly appreciated.

... I don't have a tuner card.... That's a good reason. If you have a PCI cable modem, you have an RF tuner for the broadband signal, but you are still missing equipment. You need another tuner capable of tuning TV signals, plus you're missing the video A->D converter, and also missing the audio out to your soundcard.

Of course, if your PCI card had two tuners and the rest of the equipment, then the manufacturer would have drivers and other software for it and you'd have installed them on your PC, plus, you'd see an audo-out for a patch cord to your soundcard's line-in, and have a patch cord connected.

Of course, most of us with PCI analog capture cards get better results when we capture with S-Video or Composite video rather than the internal tuners.

When cable modems were new technology, and my cable company was experimenting, I had a PCI cable modem (Surfboard brand), downlink only, and I needed a modem connection for all uplink communication. But in recent years, all of the cable modems I've dealt with have been external, with ethernet connections to a PC or a LAN.
