Hi!

I'd like to encode the audio of a video file with Ogg Vorbis using VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. For this, I thought I'd need a DirectShow filter for Ogg, so I first got the 0.9.9.5 (http://www.vorbis.com/files/1.0/tobias/OggDS0995.exe) by Tobias (http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm) mentioned on the Vorbis (http://www.vorbis.com/) site. I assumed that after installing the file, something about Ogg Vorbis should show up in VirtualDub's Audio->Compression dialog.

Since this wasn't the case, I downloaded and installed the filters (http://nic.dnsalias.com/OggDS0996_inst.zip) mentioned in the Directshow OGM filters version 0.9.9.6 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=61578&highlight=oggds) thread. Still nothing showing up in VirtualDub (even after restarting VDub).

What do I have to do, to encode the audio streams in VirtualDub with Ogg Vorbis?

I'm using VirtualDub-1.5.9 on Windows XP.

Thanks,
s0meobdy.

Well you would need a vorbis ACM codec, although I would not recommend it. Just encode your audio seperatly and don't use it in an AVI.

If I'm encoding the audio seperately, why should I not use it in an AVI file? How else?

@s0mebody: AVI container is not suitable for storing Ogg Vorbis, instead of AVI use MKV/OGM container.

It depends on matter of taste. Both of them have their advantages, read stickies.

it is safe to say MKV is in general a better choice

more development (as opposed to virtually none for OGM), more features, lower overhead.
