I ripped a dvd to my hard drive in vob format. I'd like to use a small piece of one of the vob files for a school project... I'm wondering if anyone knows of a program to convert vob to avi so I can virtualdub it or mpeg so I can edit it... Or if anyone know's of a program that will allow me to edit the vob file and convert it? I've tried Flaskmpeg and ChopperXP with no success... Any Ideas?

- Thanks :)

i'd say you should take a look at this guide:
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/d2a-mpeg2dec.htm

it explains how to frameserve from the vob (mpeg) to virtualdub(mod) so you can do the editing! i think it will fit your needs perfectly (although it might seem a little confusing in the beginning!)

edit: oh... instead of using the normal DVD2AVI and MPEG2DEC you should use DVD2AVIdg and MPEG2DEC3dg - download it here (http://neuron2.net/fixd2v/decodefix100.zip) :)

or, Dvdshrink(free) the part you want (use the start end function) then you can use mpeg2vcr (cost, link (http://www.womble.com)) to demux the vob and edit. If your audio is ac3 then use besweet(free) to convert audio to mp3 or whatever you want. If video is all you want then edit in mpeg2vcr, if you want audio+video multiplex back with mpeg2vcr and then edit.

This would be for mpeg, not avi.
