Keeping having to reinstall XCD filter

I am using riff-cdxa-filter-test6b.exe so I can read the XCD DAT file (and the 795 MB AVI contained therein)

It works OK for a time - then I suddenly find I can't open XCD DATs
anymore. When I reinstall the filter, it works again. Fine, but why do I have to keep doing this?

Am using Win Me (quite stable) on a Duron 800/256 MB/32 MB AGP system.

Have tried Gabest's cdxareader.ax (regsvr32'd it OK) but found it could not open XCD DATs.

Suggestions?
