View Full Version : bin/cue file to large

Hello. I'm trying to convert a dvd to svcd, but have a problem with the size of the last image.

I use Dvd2svcd 1.2.1 build3, avisynth 2.52, and TMPGEnc 2.5. on win2000 sp4, P3 933. Under the "bitrate"-tab, all CD-size entities have been set to 800 and on the encoder-tab tmpgenc's "constant bitrate CBR" have been selected.

The size of the first bin-file, CD_Image_File_CD1.bin, is 805 MB and the length is 79:51.58 (according to Nero 6.0.0.19). The second file, CD_Image_File_CD2.bin, is 807 MB with a length of 80:03.15. And thats my problem, it's sligthy to large whitout haveing to overburn the cd.

Dvd2svcd reports the length of the video to be 01:59:00, but when I open the vob-files in media player classic the total length is 1:59:06. Is this differance something to pay attention to?

Here is my dvd2svcd_log.txt

2MB is pretty close..........what are you complaining about!:D

I think the course of action is to use a RW disc and try to overburn (I think Nero has a checkbox somewhere). If that's no good try VCDEasy (thats what I use, and it does have a overburn checkbox). If your burner won't let you overburn, then you will just have to set the disc sizes in DVD2SVCD to 795 or so and re-encode.

Try to encode VBR instead of CBR though, you should get a better result (I think CQ or 2 pass VBR in TMPGEnc?). Most people seem to prefer Cinemacraft Encoder (CCE) for SVCD, you might want to give that a try too, I use CCE 2.67.

Give the search button a go and you might find some better info. on the subject from the brainy types around here.

No, not really.

Hi,

I have the same problem on the last image. Sometimes it's only 2 MB, wich I can overburn, but other times it's 80 Mb oversized. Allready tried to set the disc size to 750 but it looks like that on the last image it doesn't matter what you put in there, cause the size of the image stays the same.

This only happens with the last image! It doesn't make any difference if I make a SVCD with 2, 3 or 4 CD's. It's always the last one that's too big.

Someone has any idea?

PS.
Sorry, don't have a log file at this moment. I'm at work (LOL)

Pretty obvious. Total mpg length is not accurated, but cutting points are always 795 (really CD size-5), so the last CD is the one where the length differences (estimated and real) are shown.

I suppose you are using TMPGENc in CQ mode, which is almost unpredictable in size, but IMHO the best quality of this encoder. So you can minimize this effect using a lower value in CQ value factor. In this way, you are going to have (usually) a not completely filled CD, but only occasionally an oversized one (saving you a new encode).

jsoto

EDIT:
I forgot to mention you can give a try to kru's plugin. I didn't do it personally, but it looks fine for TMPGENc users.

I also used it with the canopus and the cinema craft coders, but all with the same result. B.t.w. it only happens with the latest versions of DVD2SVCD!?, with older versions I never had any trouble.

i'm having the exact same problem as mteunissen.

The last cd image is always oversized, ranging from 6mb upto 50mb. i use cce 2.67 with tylo's d2sroba plugin. This only started with the new release of dvd2svcd.

Well it seems that I have to use an older version of D2S, cause no-one seems to know why this is???

As jsoto pointed out, with DVD2SVCD (even the last version) you generally get an undersized last image if using with VBR. With Costant Quantization modes, whatever encoder, it's unpredictable.

If you are always having the same problem, there must be something weird in your settings. Please :logfile: to help you better.

This one is odd indeed. I'm not sure if Tylo is reading this thread. Please post a pointer on the D2Sroba thread to have him look at it.

BTW, how large are the image files?

I think the first CD was 820mb and the 2nd CD was 802mb

I know this is a daft question, but I'll ask it anyway! "What do the CD Size options equate to, eg 800, 800 what?

I will indeed post a pointer to here in the other forum.

Many Thanks

That's an easy one: 800-MB. ;)

Make sure you understand the difference between 1-MB and 1.000.000 bytes.

The sizes you expressed seem to be in millions of bytes, not in megabytes. Try using windows explorer to tell you how many MB. Last image is usually smaller that the previous ones. This is normal. If the difference is bigger than, say, 5-MB or so, it might be an issue Tylo may want to look at.

OK thanks for the info.

I will run the job again tonight and make an exact note of the image sizes.

My reason for asking about CD Size is that Im using 700mb CD but there doesnt seem to be an option for that.

Thanks again

You have some homework to do. :)

700-MB CDs are actually 800-MB in SVCD. :readguid:

Sory I didnt know that  I did try and search the forum but couldnt find the relevant info. (The forum search did not let me search for CD 700 mb)

Believe it or not I am a Techie (networks and OS's) and thought that you could only fit 700MB of data on a CD regardless of what format you use

I will read the guides :D

Thanks

That's the magic of MPEG-2 compression. :D:D:D

Just kidding. It has to do with a special burning mode of the media which uses error correction destined space. Go ahead with your homework and you'll get the joke. ;)
