Hi goldberg - When you are doing the backing-up part, are you getting DVDShrink to read the DVD direct from the DVD-ROM drive,
OR
are you first ripping the DVD as an .iso image, to you HDD with DVDDecrypter using ".iso READ" mode and then mounting this .iso image as a virtual DVD-ROM drive with Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/portal/download.php?sid=814a7a62275afb2c00c746f48720463a) and then getting DVDShrink to read from this.
I normaly get DVDShrink to read direct from DVD wherever I can to save time and HDD space, but sometimes DVDShrink has problems reading certain discs, so I rip them to an .iso image with DVDDecrpyter and then DVDShrink works fine reading from that.
I'm no expert in this field but I would guess the DVD ripping abilties and read error handling abiltites of DVDDecryter would be greater than DVDShrink's. Meaning that if you can get a successfull .iso image rip of your scratched DVD using DVDDecrypter then you should be able to mount this as a virtual drive, point DVDShrink at it and then DVDShrink will be happy also.
Also - have a try using DVDShrink 3.0 Beta 5. (much better video quality IMHO, as well as other funtionality. it's listed as a "beta" but if only we could get "final release" products that are this stable...)
Cheers...
