1st pass settings

I am doing doing two pass encoding right now as it gives better quality. Now, I was wondering what settings you can alter on the second pass to experiment with settings without having to go back and change the settings on the first pass.

AFAIK, between passes you should only change VHQ mode...

You can use lower one for 1st pass and the higher one only for 2nd pass... Just to save some time !!! ;)

Theoretically the quality will always be better (even if the difference isn't enough to be noticeable) if you use VHQ4 for both passes. I always like to play it safe that way.

Hmm,.. so if it seems like it doesn't matter if I change between VHQ1 (1st pass) and VHQX (2nd pass), does it make a difference if I disable VHQ in the 1st pass ?

>if in the firstpass.stats there are no information about vhq decisions, "imho" vhq can be disabled 1st pass, but I think because vhq it influences block/frame size, perhaps this "asymmetrical" encoding can make a less precise final size prediction...
