Help, This is NOT the quality i want

I bought a Pinnacle PCTV Pro in order to capture tv.
After a lot of research and a few days making all kind of experiences, i've found out this thread on Pinnacle's forum:

I think this is absurd :angry: , and i need your help, as i need a card to capture TV with a DECENT quality (on AVI huffy comp.), so i can encode it later MPEG-2 and record it to DVD.

As you can agree, this image is quite different from the samples from PCTV RAVE found on

To me, it appears that you have either adjacent channel
interference or a ground loop problem.

To fix the ground loop you need to be certain that the
connection of the outer shield of the cable to a conductor
driven into the earth is in good condition. You should
also check that the ground connection of your home wiring
is also proper.

If the problem is adjacent channel interference, that is
something that you need to discuss with your cable company.

Common problem with internal TV cards is noise and interference by TV channel receive. Reason is big noise inside PC case, and noise on el. power lines (from power supply).
Solution is not simple and not guaranteed: may try with better Power Supply, some shielding of card (difficult). Good results gives antenne amplifier (for aerial receive).

Personally, I have same PCTV Pro card, and never use it's tuner. Picture is much better via attached VCR. Even then, I have noise pattern visible on very weak stations.

One thing's for sure:
DON'T EVEN THING ABOUT using the internal CARD TUNER !!
It is REALLY BAD !!

Now i'm using an external VCR to feed this card via composite video, and the image is a lot better. It isn't an excelent image, it still has noise and i wouldn't recommend this card to anyone, but it's a lot better.

Next stage...

Well, I'm using the LeadTek WinFast TV2000 XP Deluxe.

I have no herringbone interference. My cable is "earth"
grounded; my power supply ground is very well grounded
(I did my house wiring myself).

I'm sorry that you don't understand the nature of
"herringbone" interference.
