Most of the information I've read on this subject refers to divx viewing on computer monitors.

If I'm recording from a PAL Digital TV Broadcast using the Canopus ADVC 100 (DV AVI), will I have problems with interlacing if my intention is to record to DVDR and view on a standard television?

I'm also confused about whether I should be rendering fields in Vegas 4.0.

For interlacing there are 2 ways:
1- WORST. Use a deinterlacing filter (like TomsMoComp) and deinterlace the fields before encoding. This gives higher compressibility but also ghosting effects and lower overall quality.

2- BEST. Don't deinterlace. Just encode with you favourite MPEG2 encoder (such CCE or TMPGenc) and set it to INTERLACED. You also have to set the first field to be played. By this way you will have a better image quality but also a little higher bitrate.

My advice is to make some tests, maybe using a DVD RW, so you can check if you like your work.

For Vegas ... I can't help you since I have never used it.
