View Full Version : Does Anyone Use Vob2Audio?

Why or why not? It used to be in the guides on Doom9 but it's been gone for a while, any real reason why?

I never used vob2audio but I'm assuming it's some kind of demuxing/decoding utility for DVD's. It's probably not included anymore because BeSweet (http://dspguru.doom9.org) has a proven and stable .vob input feature, using vobinput.dll. You can even demux from .vobs with it using -payload.

it's still there.. on the old guides page: http://www.doom9.org/old-docs.htm. However, the tool is really old and with BeSweet there's no reason to use it anymore.

Yes I know the tool is old, but do you think there's any quality loss? And I've had problems with besweet, if I don't encode the whole movie (as in encode only the parts I want) the sound goes berserk. I don't really know how to explain what happens or if it happens to anyone else.

basically, vob2audio is way more error prone than besweet, and it's a lot less flexible (requires an installed DS filter, limited number of output formats, no features like DRC, gain, no downsampling), that's why the community has largely migrated to BeSweet. I'm not an audio expert but theoretically quality of v2a could be worse because it's optimized to be not fast but not cpu consuming, whereas the ac3 decoder in besweet (azid) takes whatever cpu time it needs.

not to meantion the full floating point process that BeSweet uses for speed and quality assurance. I say give BeSweet another go, take out the GUI and let it do it's job.

may I ask why only process a part of the movie? If you do video as well, where do you get the AC3 from? If you create a partial movie dvd2avi project, you should have a proper AC3 file to begin. Is the AC3 file really in order? What is your besweet commandline?

I was using the gui, and I meant during the final process. With the completed audio and the vfapi avi, if I use virtualdub to frameserve say if I'm doing an episode, and I just select the episode itself without the intro or ending the sound won't synch up no matter what, even if you make it synch to a certain point it will go out of synch soon after again. Also went the same for just exporting to divx with virtualdub.
