View Full Version : How to make and use a custom template in CCE 2.67

To use CCE 2.67 in D2S you must use a custom template and make sure it has been selected in D2s. If you do not do this, the default filter settings in CCE 2.67 will make your encode one of poor quality. Here is how you create and use the custom template. For those of you who do not want to actually learn anything, see the download link at the bottom of this post for RB's CCE 2.67 templates.

1> In the CCE 2.67 Template menu make sure "Standard" is checked, and then click on it again. This will bring up the template design interface. In other words, clicking on any checked template brings it up in the template creation/edit dialog box.

2> For a Progressive template in the 2.67.x CCE series go to quality tab and uncheck everything. Then make sure you check "Progressive Frame Flag" and "Zigzag". Those two things are the only ones checked. Exit the Quality tab. (for Interlaced template see note 1 below)

3> In the video tab uncheck everything except "Add Sequence Endcode". Set "Offset line" to 0. Set M=3 and N/M = 4. Exit the Video tab. If you desire, you can also choose a specific matrix. Most will not need to do so as other matrices are available in the D2s Matrix tab.

4> In "Title" change "Standard" to "Progressive", and click the "Add" button located in the lower left. Note - If needed, when editing this custom template in the future you would use "Replace" instead of "Add" when any changes were made. Exit template design and verify the Progressive template is available in the CCE template menu. Exit CCE.

5> Run DVD2SVCD. Go to the "encoder" tab and make sure "Cinema Craft Encoder" is selected. On the lower right of that dialog is "Advanced Settings" - Select it, check "use CCE template" and verify your custom template is available in the selection box. When doing an encode remember to always chose this template or verify it has been chosen.

Note1: All settings are the same for the Interlaced template except step 2 above. The only thing that should be checked is "alternate". Follow the steps above with this exception and create your Interlaced template. The one exception to this is if your source in interlaced AND is bottom field first (DV might be an example). In that case you would set "Offset line" to 1. Actually is is better to leave it as 0 and add .DoubleWeave().SelectOdd() to the end of your source line in your avs script. This properly changes BFF to TFF and so it work perfectly when the offset line is set to 0.

Note2: If you selected a specific matrix for use in your template in step 3, It will be used if you select "Use current default Matrix" in the D2S matrix tab. Otherwise the matrix you select in the D2s matrix tab will be used.

To accomplish the same as above you can download RB's Template for CCE (http://home.t-online.de/home/340044300675/ccetemplates.zip) (2.66 and 2.67) and double click to merge the correct one into your registry. Make sure to change offset line to 0 and do a replace.

Just a sidenote - I tried doing this myself and it worked out fine but the luminance level on the video tab is not addressed. Mine was set to (16 to 235) by default and stayed that way according to the step by step instructions. I downloaded RB's templates and they use (0 to 255).

I just thought I would point this out. It may be obvious to most but for the person just starting out and wanting to do this theirselves - you will need this info.

So if you want to follow RB's template design you may need to set the luminance level setting as well.

Unless you are working in RGB colorspace the luminance level setting in CCE has no effect at all. See Q 12 of the CCE FAQ

Hmmm took a look at the download templates for 2.66 and it seems that M=3 and N/M=5.

I guess n/m=4 is the suggested value, right?

all the best

Boombastic,

You use progressive or interlaced depending on what your source is.

You can open a source .vob file in DVD2AVI and check if you see any interlaced combing. If not, progressive is the template to use.
Make sure that you use a .vob file which is part of the main movie (not an extra).

Ok but if i choose, let's say, the progressive is that the RB's Template or just the default cce one?

Boombastic,

CCE doesn't come with a default progressive template. That was added when you double clicked on RBs registry file. CCE as supplied comes with the 'standard' template; you can delete that one if you wish.

@t610425: The value of N/M in DVD2SVCD will take precedence over the CCE template. Set it to N/M=4 if you are using scenarist to author. I believe DVD-Author can succesfully use n/m=5 (but I must admit, I've never tried it).

Regards,
Bob

In D2S 1.2.2b3, advanced settings, the Use CCE Template is grayed out; I cannot select anything. I guess I forgot something?

Thanks

try here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67057&highlight=use+cce+template)

I personally use bobwillis' suggestion there, simple and effective
