Hi all,

i've been out of DivX encoding for long time. Back then i did the encoding without the queue in GKnot. The steps were like the following:

1) Save an .avs from gknot
2) Do first pass from nandub ( If i remember correctly, i used fast recompress ???? )
3) Load and stats in gknot and correct resolution if the % were wrong
4) Put a WAV RIFF header in the mp3
5) I don't remember the part about .ECF files and some values in the SBC settings
6) Do the final pass with no processing for audio ( in full process ?? )

I used the new Guide DivX3 guide and i don't get same good results.

I followed these steps not from a guide on doom9, but from a local magazine guide ( which i lost : ).

I checked also the SBC guide for DivX3, and it follows a bit different way.

Can someone help on these steps and tell if this method works for the latest version of GKnot and NanDub???

ps I checked the old guides also, and i didn't find anything relevant...

Now with recent versions the use of GK for divX is very easy. The steps to be followed are:
1.Create d2v project file from vob files using DVD2AVI.
2.Load this d2v in GK and select the appropriate sound you need.(select the same in the overhead calculation area too)
3.Select the birate or no of CDs.
4.autocrop/Manually crop in GK.
5.Select a resolution btw,the bits/pixel is not below the minimum level or not looking red.(thumb rule:use values>0.21 for divx3.11)
6.If you need subtitles select the files in subtitles tab.
7.In options tab,set the default codec properties/Values.

If you have done all these you are ready to start ripping. In the video window there are several options.
1.resize filter:select appropriate you like ;)
2.field operations.
Here select the filters that you want to work in the avs.note that all selected filters will be activated in your avs. Many other options are there which most of the time doesn't require.
if all done,then save avs.
A window asking start encoding will pop up.Click Ok and you have entered to the time stamps of encoding procedure.
Here all the calculatios are done by GK itself. If you need a compresibility check you need to do it before saving avs.
Bye

Thanks for your answer Tuning,

i have some questions and remarks though:

1) I recall that by doing a second pass using the .stats from the first pass after changing resolution, you would get the best quality ( for the selected size ) on the final 3rd-pass. Is this feature done automatically now by GKnot? Is a part of this done through the compressibility test to save time ?
2) Where can i find info on the impact of each resize filter to the quality/processing speed?
3) I have enconded a movie using the steps u mentioned, which btw is same as the guide but i don't the result (good quality/size) is by far worst than the manual SBC method i used. I guess some info is missing....

GKNot doesnot change resolution automatically, infact gives an approximate value of bits/pixel ratio. So you can decide after doing Compressibility test,to change resolution or not or increase size in order to get good quality results.BTW,the stats file are loaded automatically by Gknot. And note compressibility test need to be done before encoding/starting any pass.

Regarding resize filters,I think(May be wrong..)
1.Bilinear 2.simple resize 3.sharp bicubic 4.Normal bicubic 5.Laczos
Quality wise:5,3,4,1,2(decreasing)
Speed wise : 2,1,4,3,5(decreasing speed)
If it takes lot of time, obvious need more CPU power.

I think you need to provide the video type and other relevant details,so that we could find some solution.
