Hi,

i have the problem with this message obove while i'm open an avi-file. I've tried to make a .d2v-File with DVD2AVI and there were no problems while open this file but when i try to open an avi-File i get "no a valid dvd2avi project".

I've used Gordian Knot 0.28.5. Now I'm using Gordian Knot 0.28.6 and tried also Gordian Knot 0.28.6.2... Always the same result. I've uninstalled/installed many times (with different options). Last time i've deleted all entries in the registry like "gordian" or "knot". Then i installed gordian knot 0.28.6 and have agait this failure.

The Avi-Files i tried were coded with divX (i don't know which divx, but i try different files). Installed is DivX 5.05.

Can someone help, please...

Thanks

Welcome to Doom9's forum, krieger2005. There have been a number of reasons why someone could get this error, though all reports, as far as I can recall were for .d2v files, not .avi or .avs files. Should you want to reinstall Gknot again, as you attempt different things to fix the problem .... to delete Gknot settings in the Registry, all you need to do is press the Delete Registry Keys button on the Options tab.

From prior AVI-opening discussions, I know that Gknot uses Microsoft Windows services to open AVI files. Please, double check the .avi you are trying to open, just to be sure there isn't something wrong with your PC's ability to render it. The tool you can use to check an AVI, and to check rendering of the codecs, is called GSpot (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot221.exe). There may be something in your Windows configuration that is causing this.

In addition, Gknot 0.28.6.2 fixes one of the possible reasons, see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63769

And, if you'd like to see other possibilities, click the search button (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?s=), use the keywork "project" searching by title, in the Gordian Knot forum. You'll see mare than 20 threads on the subject, including the one I found regarding 0.28.6.2.

Thanx for the information. While i tried to solve my problem i used this opinion but at the end i don't know any other solution as to delete regestry-entries manualy after i unistalled gknot i let delete gknot delete the registry-entry themselves.

I tried many ways to solve this problem,
1. at first point the new installation of gknot (0.28.5.3). First i checked (while the installation) all Things which i thougth i need (vdub, nandub, dvddecrypter, beesweet with azid, avisynth, DVD2AVI). Because i have this error again i unistalled gspot (0.28.5.3) (with regestry-delete.. i do it allways).
2. i make a full installation. Again this error...
3. I unistalled all codecs, gknot. installed gknot (0.28.5.3) complete, then the CodecPack 1.5 (whithout divx5.05). Then I Installed DivX 5.02. No solution. Unistall of all.
4. Downloading of GKnot 0.28.6.2. Downloading DivX 5.0.5. Installation of GKnot (nnow 0.28.6.2) than the codecpack, then DivX 5.0.5. The Same problem... unistall,
5. download of gknot 0.28.6.... again installion... again this problem.
I delivered up and posted here...

As i noted above i've tested different avi-files. I know the Tool GSpot. So for example i have this result when i open a movie:
Video:
Codec: 4CC:DX50/divx, Name:DivX 5.0, Stat: 3 compatible Codecs installed: XVid, 2 times DivX 5.0.5.830 (both entries of DivX has the Same Regestry-Entry and use divxdec.ax)???
Audio:
No Audio Channels
Streamtype:
OpenDML AVI (rest n.a.)

In the moment i don't know, why gspot show me 2 compatible DivX-Decoder, but maybe someone know this and maybe this is the fault. However it may be, gknot can't open this avi-file and return the famous error.

I've read this Topic, but this is out of the question. This is not the Reason because i does nothing changed. I installed the program, run it and try to open the file.

I've also searched for other solutions (here in the forum and with google) but nothing helps.

Most important question here - are you able to render this file within GSpot ?

Sorry, could not answer earlier.... Here a summery of the GSpot Render-Result.... A File which GKnot (now version 0.28.6.2) could not open:
Direct Show Renderer:
Video Src Type: 4cc: DX50
Audio src.....: MPEGLAYER3 (MP3) (0x0055)
Video-Path....: (S) --> AVI Splitter --> DivX Decoder Filter --> (R)
Audio-Path....: (S) --> AVI Splitter --> MPEG Layer-3 Decoder --> Morgan Stream Switcher --> (R)
Status: Rendering Successful
.... details ....
DirectShow claims to be able to play the file. The following combination of filters used:
bla.avi (Source)
AVI Splitter (Splitter) | quartz.dll, CLSID_AviSplitter <RegKey> so on...
DivX Decoder Filter (Video Decoder) | divxdec.ax, 4cc:divx <Regkey>
Video Renderer (Video Renderer) | quartz.dll, CLSID_VideoMixingRenderer <RegKey>
MPEG Layer-3 Decoder (Audio Decoder) | l3codec.ax
Morgan Stream Switcher (Audio Post-processor)
default DirectSound Device (audio renderer)

hm... which OS are you using ?
I might need to get a sample of that file...

krieger2005

WinXP Pro...

How can i make a sample of which ever file? The avi-file?
If you mean a avi-file... i know how to make a sample file, but why do you need that. I can't open any AVI-File with GKnot. I get allways the same error-message... I tried on (let me count...) about 20 AVI-Files (most DivX 5.0?? and some with DivX 3.11 coded).

I can give you a sample file, but where can i do an attachment here? or how can i send you an attacment?

Tell me - are you using XP windows scheme (with fancy buttons and window captions)? If yes, can you try switching to classic scheme and try opening files again? (and please don't ask me why :) )

So, now is switched to classic-scheme
Start GKnot -> Open Avi File -> Error
Uninstall GKnot (and delete Regkeys)
Reboot
Install GKnot (0.28.6) -> Run GKnot -> Open a Avifile -> Error
Upgrade to GKnot (0.28.6.2) -> Run GKnot -> Open an AviFile -> Error
Unistall all Drivers (DivX, XVid, HuffYUV) and some Programs. Install Regestry-Cleaner-Programs (three different)... Clean (or what the Program make) the Regestry. Run an Test with GKnot -> Error
Reboot
Run GKnot -> Open AviFile -> Error

Maybe i have now some Regkey less but GKnot can't open avi-Files... sorry

I have installed an old image of my Harddrive, which i maked a time ago, when i installed windows and some programs... well, now i can open AVI-Files with GKnot...

I had DivX 5.02. Then i installed DivX 5.0.5.

Open an AVI-File again and does it... the AVI-File opened...

I don't know where the failure was, but now (i think i was alone) i does not this Problem...

PS: Somewhere in this forum i read that someone opened GKnot througth another user. Before i restored my old Driveimage i make a new user and tried to open with this new user to open an avi-File. But without success. I hope no one get this problem...

In my case, I uninstalled the new XviD codec.
It will solve XivD file open problem in GK.

When I installed DivX 5.11 codec, I found that all media players played XviD movie files using DivX codec inspite of XviD installed...
So, I uninstalled XviD codec and free from GK Xivd file open error.
