Hi everybody,

I’m fighting more than two weeks with the problem: I have a 2sides DVD with 3 episods on each side. With DVD Decryptor and DVD2One 1.3 I can prepare *.vob files for one-side DVD, but I cannot prepare very simple MENU with: 6 buttons for episod selection, button for english language, button e.g. german language, button for spain subtitles and button for french subtitles (Europe – PAL system).

What do you suggest me to do to create this simple menu ?

Any advice is for me usefull !!!

Thank you

David

get dvd author from www.pegasys-inc.com
its free for 30 days.

extract each episode into is own vobs with dvddecrypter

create a track for each episode in dvd author
use their menu templates, or make one of your own
compile the dvd on hard drive.....if its too big don't worry

use dvd2one to shrink to correct size.

its all very easy to use.

ddt-Welcome to the forum:

Senior member maa gave you instructions (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64675/) on deleting your crossposts, please follow them. This might also be a good time to re-read the Forum Rules which can be found at the top of any forum page, and get familiar with how things work here at Doom9. Caps and special characters are mentioned there, as well.

Don't let the pointers to the rules discourage you, it's just part of the learning curve and something that many of us have had to go through. Good luck!

Dear sarahjh69,

finally a senior member with an answer to a question...

Back to the theme: thank you for your tip, but, unfortunately it is not on 100% what I need. I tried it and it should be great soft for these purposes and I should use it (I really wish), but it doesn't support subtitles (yet) - I didn't find any way how to proceed it with them. I'm from a small country from a heart of Europe and we are not so familiar with more languages (there is not one language like in US, but a lot in a Europe) - so we need to chose a language or/and subtitles. So, for these purposes I need something similar like this dvd author, but with support of subtitles - do you have any another tip ???
I was thinking about new menu editor with a possibility to add new buttons, but new free version is nothing saying (you cannot try these functions) and I didn't receive any answer from Dimad (Menu editor) nor Derrow (IfoEdit - I think, that there can be a way too).

Do you have any other tip ???

Thank you very much
David

Welcome David--

I have seen your other posts and understand your frustration. First of all please, please, please read ammck55's post in this thread very carefully. There are many people on this forum, newbie, junior member, senior member and moderator who are here and willing to help you. Everyone who responds to you is trying to help. Really the only thing that the forum asks is that you do some preliminary research for your questions.

There are two "stickys," one here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46178) and the other here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57186), on the IFO/VOB Edit Forum. They have very complete information about Menu Edit. In them you learn that the "Import" function is not yet available. Therefore, this software will not fit your immediate needs.

IFO Edit edits only the IFO files. These are the files necessary to navigate through the DVD. This software does not create menus, although you can do some creative things.

I personally don't have the knowlege to assist you, but I can maybe point you to where you can find help. Have you tried the SubTitles Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&forumid=12) yet? I have seen all of your posts and your question seems best suited for this forum or the SubTitles Forum.

Once again, there are many people here who want to help you. Please be familiar with the forum rules. Also, please understand that you may not receive the help you expect, but you will receive the help that will enable you to solve your problem.

Once again, welcome and enjoy the forum.

Do you really need buttons to select the subtitles and languages
as far as I know, if you don't strip them out of the VOBs you
should still have them available by using the dvd player setup
menu, or if using a PC, right click and select.

If I press a button called "Language" on my DVD remote
It says "Audio English" , press it again "Audio French"
and so on. Same with the "Subtitles" button. You don't
need to make a menu to do this.......its completely pointless.

and this is on the cheapest dvd player in the world....Yamada 5520
at £40 including delivery from www.amazon.co.uk

May be, that I wrong specified, what I want to do: from prepared vobs want to prepare a very simple menu, after a DVD disc is inserted:

root menu (and all 6-10 buttons on this menu)
:
:
episode 1 - episode selection
episode 2
.
.
german audio + audio selection
english audio
.
.
german subtitles + subtitles selection
english subtitles

(these languages are not my native).

It sounds easy, but it is not, because if software, with I can prepare a menu, supports multilanguage, it does not support subtitles and vice versa. Eg. DVD Author removes subtitles from the vobs...
I thought that a new version of MenuEdit can help me, but I cannot try it on a free version (may be, it can be simple solution for my problem, but I really don't know if the Registered version can help me - it is not a problem of 16,5$ - believe to me, there are some parts of a world where it is a fortune) - from some sources it seems as it can help me, from another not, and the main important source - author - didn't answer yet.
As you wrote, IfoEdit navigate through the DVD. I though (may be stupidly), that I can prepare some very easy menu with buttons in a some graphics program and in IfoEdit I would assign the right commands to these buttons).
I don't need a Cadillac with tons of extra features - simply running moped is OK for me...

And questions about my research - of course yes, I'm two weeks frustrated with researching all possible sources (during nights via dial-up), but I had always finished one step before a finish...

About the remote - yes, it can be a solution, but if I give about 6 or 9 episodes on one DVD, the selection of a episode will be better on the menu...

perhaps this (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdauthoring.htm) DVD authoring software matrix (bottom of the page) can help you out a bit!

Thank you

The only important menu that will be more utilized is a scene selection menu in which not only would you know what the title of the episode/chapter is but you can immediately jump to the start of it. That's the first reason that made me migrate to DVDs from VHS tapes. If I had to author a DVD with menu, at the minimum, all I need is one menu to put all my scene buttons in.

@ddt

DVD Lab is a great and easy to use DVD authoring program. What's great about DVD Lab is that you can use the original VOBs as is and you retain all audios and subtitles. This way you can make multiple audio and subtitle buttons. There are guides around here that can help you out. If you can't find them, let me know.
