I was wandering if anybodyelse has this happen?
wen I first checked out dvd shrink it sayes software needed dvd shrink, image tools, dvd decripter and optinal nero.
fallowed the guides, but wen i burnt with dvd decripter it only played on my computer not a stand alone.
then I got to playing around with dvd shrink...and all of a sudden i got it to work. but i only used dvd shrink 2.3 or 3.0 save on hdd then burn with nero6 thats it! is this how it was sposed to work ?
did I miss something in the guides? it's not broke and i'm not gona tri to fix it,but I just gotta know.
also some dvd-9's are quite large 7-8 gigs.and have to use a compression level 10 to make it fit,but I don't see a quility problem even doing the whole disk menues and all.
I have nice equipment sony 36"xbr tv,sony dvd player, sony reciver,
bose acustimass 10 speakers. I also use high quility wiers ie.
( monster cables ) for componit video, and optical conection.so I know what good quility is but I can't tell a diference from the original disc and the backed up disc.
any input would be greatly apriciated.

You will if you ever play it with a high def tv. That's why I try to keep the most video possible and strip all other audio, extras, and do movie only (even though I don't have high def). You never know 5 years down the line.

Also, you probably couldn't view the movie on standalones because of the mode that was used to burn your discs. I don't know what DVD Decrypter uses but I think Nero uses UDF with Joliet by default to burn dvds. And that could be the main reason why they play now.

Yep, I just got a 51" HDTV last week. I backup up a Sopranos disc. That disc was a DVD-9 and I couldnr erase anything (no extras) and I had to keep the menus to get to the episodes. So I used DVD shrink 3.0, had to compress with a 35% loss, then did a back up (not reauther) using deep analysis. It looked perfect on my tube non-HDTV, but when I watched it on the HDTV it still looked good, but not perfect.

So in short, always do the least amount of compression, and always use deep analysis to get better quality.

Yes, it is. :)
In some rare circumstances you might have to use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD first. ;)

As mudda_t already said, you might not see any degradation in quality when using a high level of compression, but you might do if and when you upgrade your viewing equipment.

To make sure you get the best quality possible in full-disk mode, I'd suggest you use v3.0 Deep Analysis (the "Analysis" button") whenever the compression required is > 20% ("Ratio" < 80%).
If the compression exceeds 35% ("Ratio < 65%), use "Re-author" to do a movie-only backup.

If you still want to shave 3-5% off the compression, use "Still Pictures" on the end-credits.

I did not realy think about the high definition thing. good point.
also I left out the fact that wen using dvd shrink 3.0 i always use deep analysis to backup with. but I don't use image tools, the guide I read said I needed it.I don't see why?
anyways thanks for all your input.
