Unicode (http://www.unicode.org/)
toraneko - Your initial post would lead me to think that only the names of your files are written in Unicode, if so, can you manually change the file extensions, allowing your software program to recognize the files?

first of all, I'm sorry for not having answered sooner.

this is what happens :

- if I drag-and-drop a file whose name contains UNICODE characters (for instance chinese or japanese "characters"), all characters which aren't "occidental" are removed.

- if I try to change the name manually, it gives me that error : "Joliet file name cannot contain any of the following characters "/:*?<>\|;". even though the name doesn't contain any of them.

is it really hopeless ?
