After trying different backup workflow (Ifoedit, DVDFab, ...) I finally settle down for DVD2one 1.3 which is very robust, fast and has no quality degradation to my eyes. (I've never done side by side comparisons but only compared the backup to the original a day apart)
The workflow:
DVDRegionFree > (Select titles with DVDShrink) > DVD2one > Nero > DVD-R
DVDRegionFree is great because it avoids the creation of decrypted files on the hard drive.
DVDShrink is very powerful to quickly scan a DVD and decide which titles to keep.
DVD2one : good quality - 20 to 30 minutes processing. Either I keep all the tiles and the menu (Full DVD backup) or I join the titles that interest me, menus being removed.
Nero : DVD video - Easy and foolproof
DVD-R : I only use identified manufacturers DVDs : Maxell, Pioneer, .. They are more expensive but I don't waste my time re-burning (I had too many defects with Princo)
In case of single layer DVD, I simply use DVDdecryper ISO read - write mode.
