need help finding web hosting

Hello,
i have a few files i need to upload to the web.
One is 35mb on its own (zipped!) is there any web sites that can handle on uplaod of 35mb? i have tried a few like 50megs but none can do it :(.

i'm really looking for free web hosting , the storage matters ( >35mb) but i dont really care if there are banners or pop ups.

Do you have broad band? If you do, then have you consider hosting your own files. I don't know if you want them to be accessible to the public, or just select few. But if it's a select few, and you have broadband, then I suggest you just host it yourself. You can try Apache2 (http://apache.org) for Windows and see how that works for you. My broadband company give me 45KB upload, which I use to host my own website and private FTP.

Yes this could be an option.
I think i will look in to this! i wouldn't mind a back up just in case my computer can't stay on though etc,

Most of free hosting will not accept long files, and don't like to be used as file host.

you're going to have problems with the 35mb files using a free hosting. It starts with the already stated fact that most hosts don't allow files above a certain size, and reason two is the explanation for reason 1: imagine 10 people per day downloading that file. Makes 10x35 = 350mb a day, and 30x350 = 10.5GB a month. Most free hosts expect a traffic that is lower than the daily rate in this little example, so it won't take long for them to kick you. Now when I started out I was able to get free hosting that would cover such traffic (though there was a filesize limit of 5mb), but today I doubt you'll find it anywhere. With the burst of the internet advertising bubble many things that used to be free are no longer free. And even if you get commercial hosting, don't expect too much free traffic.

Thank you for the replies, yes i had thought that this is why they didn't' let me upload large files, but could they not just limit my bandwidth per day? In any case i think i will set up the Apache server. This download is only about once per week.

There is a german webhosting company which tries to get a share of the american market. They are called 1&1.

They offer a website for 3 years for FREE. Quite good offer. I think they expect you to stay after these 3 years.
I think webspace is 50 mb and 10 GB transfer but not sure. But i think it is a very good offer....

Wow never heard about www.1and1.com until now! I guess they're not expecting everyone to use all of their bandwidth and web space.

I'm paying 7.95 per month for 500MB and 10GB of transfer for my website space. But of course my webhost has always been really professional and quick with fixes I request so I've stuck with them.

1&1 is by far! the leading website company in Germany. I think they are known for their good price but not for their service!!! So dont expect any special treatment.

This offer is actually better than what they offer in Germany but you need an american billing address to get this offer.

It seems to me that they plan to get the money by transfers? So if you have 10 gig transfer, you already pay 5 dollar which is quite close to your 8 dollar.
